- Doesn't make sense, does it. I would also like to see Palm release the WebOS in Australia, which would obviously benefit the company, the users, and the mobile phone industry.
- You make a good point, but what most folks don't realize is that Palm has probably a year in which to become profitable (not necessarily fail). After that point they'll have to find someone with deep pockets to help out. Given the state of the company after this year, and the state of their product (mainly the WebOS) that's when things will become critical for them. For me, and for the next year (if I keep the phone) I believe from a business perspective Palm will be here and so will their products. What I can't believe is just how slick the WebOS 1.4 really is. I had sort of pooh-poohed it for a long time (without even looking at it)...but it really is nice!
- I never thought I'd do this...but I'm trying out a Palm Pre Plus (Verizon) for 30 days. If it doesn't work out I'll go back to the BB, but I have to say this is better (for me anyway) than the iPhone! It's smaller, has a great email client that works well with any IMAP (I use Gmail) and it is two-way IMAP sync, where the BB does not. It also syncs to my Mac much easier than any other phone I've ever used. I know Palm doesn't have a huge market share, but at the end of the day it's what works for you. The update to WebOS 1.4 make this so much better than the 1.3.x version. Additionally, I looked at the Palm Pre awhile back and didn't care for it at all...to me, this is a completely different phone. Anyway...just one more perspective.
- FWIW, I tried the Droid briefly and loved it...and the Android OS. I just had a problem with it transferring songs from my Mac (iTunes) to the Droid...but it worked great with Windows. That was early on and the problem is most likely fixed now. One downside to the Droid is you can not change font size in email (in the browser, yes) but unless you have very good eyes, the email font size is way small.
- I've had a BB on my belt for nearly 12 years, and by now I'm about sick of hearing "BB email capabilities...BB email capabilities". Those "capabilities" are, in fact, "INcapabilities" for Google Apps and Gmail users. And with the number of users moving to Gmail daily, there will only be more dissatisfied BB users. I'm not a fan of the iPhone...tried two of them...but at least the iPhone is completely compatible with Gmail and it has all the Gmail features. All BIS provides is one-way push and a couple of other Gmail features. It's sad :-(
- You are absolutely correct! Google is certainly a part of engineering the enhancement to BIS 3.x, just as they were for the current Enhanced Gmail plugin, but BIS is a RIM product and if Gmail 2-way sync is ultimately left out...blame RIM.
- That percentage will go up a lot higher if RIM doesn't add 2-way Google sync to BIS 3.0 as they said they would do. First looks would show they didn't do this, but I'll wait until 3.0 is actually deployed in North America before I start looking at another smartphone.
- Mike...actually, it's not. There are reams written about this but basically, all IMAP does is push your Gmail to your BB. There are one or two things that sync if you use RIM's Enhanced Gmail Plugin, but very little. For anyone who lives with Gmail, it is woefully short of the many features Gmail provides. BIS 3.0 was supposed to rectify these things, but apparently that's not going to be the case. Even if BIS were to include all the things it was touted to...it was only enough to keep die-hard BB user around for a bit longer. While moving to Android is the optimum way to have all Gmail features on the BB. It seems so sad to see this as even the iPhone has full Gmail, but not RIM...they still forget that some of their pockets get lined with money from consumers and all they care about is the enterprise market :-(
- After 11 years using a BlackBerry, this will be the end for me if they leave off 2-way Gmail sync. For me, it's all about Google Apps and Gmail, and I've not changed to Android only because I love my BB and this has been dangling in front of our noses for six months. But Android obviously has even more than 2-way Gmail sync...it perfectly syncs everything about gmail to your phone. It's a shame RIM just can't figure out that Google Apps users are big in numbers and loyal to their product.
- You are correct. I've been using a BB for 11 years but only recently began using DM for Mac (as you know it's relatively new). I tried "Applications" but was missing the "+" button at the lower left after I opened the Applications window. The "+" opens a Finder window so I can select something on my Desktop, etc. Thanks!!
