- If it's just different icons, a different wallpaper and/or different colors, it's gonna be hard to justify this theme, particularly for users of the original version... Still in saying that, I've used the original since it came out and still consider it one of the best themes I've ever seen or used!
- Still no support for the ODFs (OpenDocument Formats)... Official support for these popular formats (as used by Google Docs and OpenOfffice.org) was recently added to version 3.0 of the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS), so it's disappointing to see DataViz continuing to ignore these increasingly-more-common formats (particularly as the holder of three "premium" licenses, for three different operating systems).
- They should add a (optional) ticker-like function to the Home Screen, which would open articles either in Viigo or directly when clicked on...
- It's strange that there are ALREADY rumors relating to BlackBerry OS 6.x, considering BlackBerry OS 5.0 is still in the process of being rolled-out by service providers... Of course when it comes to Research in Motion (RIM), this means nothing and the upgrade could be YEARS away yet!
- I think the worst thing Viigo ever did was all that "Project Tango" crap as all it's done is add bloat to what was once a fantastic application... I remember reading that there is a "lite" version around somewhere, but I went looking for it on Viigo's Web site and couldn't seem to find it, so hopefully RIM will make it a little more "available". Then there's the infamous issues with the memory and battery issues - it'd be awesome for RIM to put a priority on these, as Viigo is almost unusable due to its MASSIVE memory leaks and the way in which it smashes through one's battery! Finally, I don't know if it'll happen, but I'd love to see two-way synchronization with Google Reader introduced... Now that I've recently made the switch to Google Reader, this is the main reason I don't use Viigo anymore.
- I think one of the main reasons that Linux has been slow to gain market-share is the fact that most major companies, particularly those that offer hardware which connects to a computer (such as mobile phones, eBook readers, gaming consoles, etc...), repeatedly ignore Linux and refuse to make their software available for a Linux distribution... Virtually ALL of the software from COMMERCIAL companies that I've seen has been for development purposes (such as theme-or application-building tools). Yes, I think it's unlikely that everyone will jump-ship to a Linux distribution if all their hardware natively worked with Linux (Apple's a good example of this, as most hardware now works with Apple computers), but there's a chance it'd encourage the porting of popular/mainstream commercial software and with a little luck, start the "snowball effect"...
- Yeah, I noticed that... But it wasn't always the case, and prior to service providers blocking BlackBerry Maps, it wasn't available in a great many countries.
- "-Betas are not likely to be offered in all regions for all products by ANY COMPANY. You can find the same thing on Nokia, or anyone else…" You so did not just claim that beta products, software or services are not usually offered in all regions! Let's see who offers global OR wide-scale betas: * Sony (bandit.fm started as a beta) * Google * Microsoft (particularly with regards to their "Windows Live" services) * Facebook * Twitter * FourSquare * UberTwitter * Opera Software (browser and browser-based products only) * Mozilla * BeeJive * WordPress * Second Life * IMVU * BitStream ("Bolt" browser) * Amazon ("Kindle" software products) * AOL (primarily AOL Instant Messenger) * ICQ And THAT's just referring to SOFTWARE and/or WEB SITES! Would you like me to start on HARDWARE?
- 1. "Key" Markets "Key" markets being Australia, along with multiple European and Asian markets... Yep that's right, there ARE countries OUTSIDE of North America and/or Canada with a HIGH BlackBerry penetration rate! 2. BlackBerry Maps With regards to BlackBerry Maps, the fact that you have never used it justifies Research in Motion's (RIM) choice not to release it here, does it? 3. BlackBerry App World Unlike most people, I quite like BlackBerry App World, particularly after the most recent update... It's fast, reliable, great to look at easy to use. Perhaps the only justified complaint you with regards to BlackBerry App World, is the fact that it is possibly a little more "bloated" than it needs to be (though the latest version is a fair bit smaller). 4. Custom Housings Most of the time, RIM will release BlackBerry Model X in various colors, and the licenses each color to their partners based on RIM's own criteria (money, partner customer base, partner value tier, etc...)... Occasionally a service provider will request a custom or specific color, though this is usually at the service provider's expense (some service providers have LONG-TERM agreements, so that handsets "match" their branding...) and is not very common. As for another "12 valid reasons", I've got better things to do than sit here and point-out the obvious... But here's a few to keep you going: * Web-based interface for BlackkBerry App World - yep, ONLY the countries with premium (paid) applications get this... Everyone else just gets re-directed to the North American site, which is completely pointless because 99% of that content is not available internationally! * Device-based BlackBerry Store (for authentic accessories) - this launched only a week or two ago and unsurprisingly, is ONLY available to North American and Canadian users! * Most of RIM's Web sites feature North American content or exclusively, many despite being listed as "localized"... "My BlackBerry" is the first example that springs to mind.
- Really? I find BlacklBerry OS 5.0.x.x to be a LOT faster and stable! Not so sure about Research in Motion's (RIM) Twitter client as I have not tried it, but the rest of the operating system overall seems to be faster and more stable than the previous version I had installed...
