RIM has yet to let developers create themes for BlackBerry 7 devices but that has not stopped Magmic. We told you they had some success getting themes on BlackBerry 7 devices and now we have the fruit of their labor. They have released a Deck the Halls holiday theme for BlackBerrys with support for the latest BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930. It also supports BlackBerry 6 devices and will hopefully support other BlackBerry 7 devices in the future.

De-Lexion is slick  new theme, that offers true reflections on your homescreen.  I have seen many other themes that use fake reflections, and once you put up custom icons, the reflection is gone.  Walker Themes has used a custom SVG code to have the reflections show true, no matter what icon you put in to place.  I have been running the theme for a few days, and it is fast and clean.  De-Lexion also has a hide able weather slot and hidden today.

Walker Themes are new to the theme building scene, but their talent is definitely showing, this theme has great functionality.  They have also used a totally custom set of icons that that really cleans the theme up in the app menu.  There are 6 customizable icons along the bottom, and now matter which icon you put there, the reflection shows. De-Lexion comes in three colors, Blue, Green, and Pink.  The notification area is clean with no cut offs, and custom signal/battery meters as well. Space activates the hidden today, and esc hides it bringing the weather slot (or profile) icon back.

According to the latest rumors coming courtesy of Fudzilla it looks like AT&T might not be going for the BlackBerry Bold 9780. We already saw AT&T branded 9780’s but they have already yanked both the Bold 9000 and Bold 9700 off shelves and are moving the last of their inventory with no plans to order more. According to Fudzilla’s source this is because AT&T seems to think that the rumored BlackBerry Dakota will supplement the Bold line very soon. You can check out the leaked specs on the touchscreen/QWERTY Dakota in this article.

The source told them that AT&T plans on having the BlackBerry Dakota on shelves “as soon as early or mid-spring, but significant quantity is likely not expected at the store and authorized reseller level till very early summer.” Until then AT&T is planning on focusing on their exclusive Torch line along with the Curve 3G and Pearl 3G.

I think it is kind of crazy for AT&T to not have a flagship Bold device in stock but who knows they have done crazier things before…

For some ridiculous reason RIM decide to restrict the availability of the three free holiday themes they released. At first they were only available to users in the US and Canada but now they have expanded them to more countries. (Thx iBenRowe) The crazy part is that each theme has a different list of countries where it is available. It makes me wonder what the hell is going through RIM’s head when they do these kinds of things…

It has been years since the last time I have heard of RIM releasing a free theme. They used to do it regularly on mobile.blackberry.com but with the advent of App World it has really dried up. While perusing App World I discovered that RIM has quietly released three free themes for the holidays. The only catch is that they seem to be limited to only US and Canada and seem to work with most OS 4.5+ devices except for the 88XX series and the new Pearl 91XX and Curve 93XX. Not sure why RIM would do that but I guess you cannot complain about free:

• BlackBerry Exclusive Holiday Theme – Happy Holidays Red

None of the themes have any reviews since they just quietly launched today. They are relatively small at about 500Kb and in the description they recommend you sign up at this link for more information in the future. Check out the full description below:

NOTE: These hybrids are meant only for advanced users since you really can screw up your device if you install them wrong and you wont get any support from RIM. Proceed at your own risk!

Driphter has gone and publicly released their latest OS 6.0 based hybrids for the BlackBerry 85xx, 8900, 9000, and 9700. This is their second release with even more OS 6.0 files included. I installed it on my 9700 and am loving it. Others are reporting that it has a good radio and browser build in it. Keep in mind these builds are meant to be installed on top of the base OS so you will need to follow the instructions to the letter!

You can find the download files and instructions for your device in the Driphter forums for now until they put up a main post for it. Alternatively you can find them on the download page. Just select your device and instructions are in the hybrid forums.

He’s baaaaaaaack! Ninja Themes, one of THE masters of theme making, is back in action with his latest whammy of a theme…UltiMatte Nano. Yes people, this theme is dark, slick and oh so handsome. I tested the 9700 version and not only are the graphics of extreme quality but I am loving the matte icons, a few of which are nicely customized. There is a bottom dock of 7 customizable icons and a slot for your weather app in the top left hand corner. The truly neat feature is that even when you lock the screen, the weather app still displays…and updates (except on the 9000). I know you weather fans out there are gonna love that. There’s lots of other goodies on this theme but I’ll let the description at the following store link do the talking. Kreep, the latest theme to be released by Calx Design is a bit of a turn for the theme developer. Using a color scheme of bright yellow/orange’ish colors and icons, that I will say, are very cool Kreep has a sort of industrial futuristic feel to it. I’m not sure I like the busy background image to be honest, and I probably would have liked the theme more with something simpler, but to each his/her own. The 9700 version I tested worked well enough although the time/date/message indicator/battery meter, etc. box on the top left hand corner of the home screen was a little small. Other than that, it ran pretty smoothly.

“Kreep” is the first in a series of themes inspired by the old WipeOut school of design. This theme is different from other Calx themes in that it uses simple 2D outlined icons and leaves the 3D for the homescreen.

Colorful abstract graphics that seem to ‘swish’ across your screen and a pop-up today screen that magically appears when you press the ‘space’ bar make me sorta keen on Keen. This latest release offers an interesting and simplistic look with a unique home screen set-up. Though I’m not someone who loves intricate themes, I found Keen pretty easy to maneuver about on my 9700. Read the description below to see if this theme might be your style. Available for the 8900, 9000, 9500, 9600 & 9700.

Miguel from BB-Freaks is shooting out themes like crazy and one of his latest ones, ArtisticBB follows the same idea of his previous ones. Featuring a wooden fence background with green ivy growing in its midst, there are cute little artistic drawings that adorn the wall (these drawings being icons for various apps – see screen shots at purchase link below). Once again, the hanging clock is your time indicator which I think is a neat concept. I wasn’t able to play around with this theme but it does look cute. For me, it might be a little much as I tend to like simple bottom dock style themes…but for those of you who like some unique creativity in your themes you may want to give this one a whirl. ArtisticBB costs $2.99 until February 20th and can be purchased in our Berryreview Store. I would suggest reading the description carefully and viewing all the screen shots before you make a purchase so you can be sure you are getting the theme that you want.

Yes he’s back…and rockin his awesome Ninja like theme skills with his latest release, Boundless. Since I am one of the beta testers Ninja Themes, I can confirm that the Ninja makes sure all his themes go through extensive beta testing. He’s a perfectionist, but the results are always worth it. Once again, Boundless, like Ninja’s other themes, works effortlessly while looking absolutely gorgeous. The background is pleasing to the eye but since the theme is wallpaper friendly on the home and locked screens you can change it as you like. Every so often we get tips sent into us at Berryreview from new and upcoming theme developers. And since I am all for supporting those who are just starting out, I thought I’d give mention to this new theme site (at least new to me) BBFreaks. Currently, they have themes for the 8900, 9000 & 9500 but I’m sure they’ll develop for more devices soon. One of their themes that I found interesting was ‘InnovationBB’. It’s a busy looking theme but IMO, incredibly creative with its layout. I love the home screen and how the time was set in the clock on the wall and how the bottom left corner notepad utilizes that space for notifications, battery/signal indicators, etc. While it may not be everyone’s style, it does have its market. Innovaion BB costs only $1.99 until February 10th until it goes back to its regular price of $3.99. You can purchase it in our Berryreview Store.

I gotta give a shout out to Luis from PooterMobile who’s latest theme release Rubus, offers colorful graphics and interesting style. Now, according to Luis, Rubus is the scientific name for BlackBerry (who knew?) but that said…I like the bright colors and unique layout. Available for a variety of BlackBerry devices, Rubus is free…that’s right FREE. Can’t beat that now can you? All you have to do is head over to PooterMobile’s own spot on PimpMyBerry, find your device and download the OTA. Thanks for the heads up Luis and nice work!

I’ve been checking out some themes in our Berryreview Store and came across BB Themes Unlimited. I actually downloaded the Hello Kitty Grunge Theme (you know I had to) they have up for sale, but upon further looking, I saw BB Hypnotic which IMO is darn hot. The cool blue luminous background and shiny metallic icons make for one super slick theme. Available for the 8900, 9000, 9600 & 9700, BB Hypnotic costs $4.95 in our Berryreview Store.

Are you looking for an all around classic BlackBerry theme that works smoothly? Well, Black ‘Mord’ by Calx Designs is exactly that. I tested the 9700 version and not only does it work quick and efficiently but it looked fab on my Berry. With all of these great looking themes that Larry (Ahead of the Curve Designs) has been releasing lately…all I can say is WOW! The latest theme, Spectra Folders is colorful and sharp. The bottom icon bar is set up as layered tabbed folders which makes for a new and unique style. I ran the 9700 version on my Berry and I like this theme a lot. And guys, don’t let the ‘colors’ fool you into thinking this is a feminine style theme…because it’s not. It’s completely universal and works like a charm.
