Official OS Release Updates For Multiple Devices

UPDATE: Sorry for the typo the new OS is 4.5.0.169 not 167.

James let me know that US Cellular has updated their OS for the 8330, 8330m, 8130, 8130m, & 8830. That brings them all up to date with the latest OS 4.5.0.169 which seems to be the latest OS available as far as I remember.

Premium ‘Digital’ theme from Hedone Design!

Hedone Design is back with their latest theme release called Digital. A mixture of colorful, swirly images and sleek bottom icons, Digital costs $6.99 and is available for a variety of BlackBerry devices. I am playing with the Bold version as I write this and this theme offers all the charm and swiftness that Hedone Design’s themes are most known for.

I love the bright visuals and the hidden bottom dock as well as the simplicity of the battery/signal meters and the way that everything is centered nicely at the top of the home screen.

IMO, the whole theme screams artistic style and professional execution.

But it doesn’t end there…as an added feature, there’s an expansion pack of additonal, alternative wallpapers that come in that gorgeous abstract image in a variety of other colors.

BlackBerry Made Simple Paperback Books for Tour & 8350i Now on Amazon

I love reading eBooks on my BlackBerry but that is only really good for casual reading. When it comes to manuals and technical guides I find eBooks frustrating due to how hard it is to navigate compared to flipping a book. We have mentioned the BlackBerry Made Simple guides a few times in digital eBook and video form but now many of them are available in paperback on Amazon.

They just released the paperback versions for the BlackBerry 9630 Tour and BlackBerry 8350i Curve. These are great guides for getting started and answering all your basic BlackBerry questions. I find them invaluable for novice users who are just getting their first taste and have no idea how much the BlackBerry can do.

Verizon Updates to Official OS 4.5.0.138 for 8130 & 8330 – Not the latest…

Quite a few readers let us know that Verizon has updated the official OS for the 8130 and 8330 this week. These are not the latest official version as we have seen on other carriers but many Verizon users are stuck with official OS versions due to corporate end user device policies.

Its a pretty good overview if you just want to see how the devices have evolved over the years especially since you cannot walk into one store and compare them all side by side. Its also cool to see how the Curve go from the 8330 to 8900 to 8520…

New Opus Theme from Elecite

I got an email last night from Peter about Elecite’s latest theme release Opus. In actuality I was a little surprised as this look tends to differ from the stuff Elecite usually puts out. A rich, dark tapestry like background with an almost dual screen type concept…definitely an eye-catcher. I myself tend to like less icons on the home screen and themes that are more simple in design, however I did test the Bold version and my tastes aside…the theme works well. It’s a pretty good size file to download but once it was activated, it ran really smooth for me.

Opus is available for a variety of devices and take note that the theme will differ between them…so check all the info to make sure you’re getting the theme you expect. According to Peter, [Opus] definitely has its own uniqueness. You get multiple sets of customizable icons by tapping on one of the 2-3 dots on the bottom portion, for the latest BlackBerry models and 1 for the older 8300/8800. It sort of works like the dual-screen animation but faster and smoother. All icons are customizable but the top 5…those cannot be changed. Opus is available for the BlackBerry Storm, Bold, 8900, 8300 and 8800 models. **This theme and like any other Elecite theme, will not work on OS version .151 or the new Tour until we perform the necessary updates.

New ‘The Berry Electric’ Theme from Ninja Themes

Thanks to Twitter (follow me @vickypazz), my friend Ninja over at Ninja Themes has been keeping me in the loop on one of his latest theme designs, The Berry Electric. Available for the 8300/8800 (OS 4.5), 8900 & 9000. I got to play around with the Bold version and this is a very slick theme. 6 nice size, user customizable icons on the home screen with a 7th on the top right (perfect for your weather app) and a today screen that’s very easy to read over the rich, black background. That’s a winning theme in my book. A classic design that looks professional AND stylish.

Now, what you should know is that currently, this theme is selling for only $1.00 dollar. Yes, you heard right and in fact, you can get ANY of his themes for just $1.00 until August 15th. And he’s got some really cool themes so I’d head on over to the Berryreview Store to check it out. On a final note, Ninja is doing a very nice thing for the SPCA. He’s taking any donations people send in for his themes and donating them to the animal right’s organization. Premium Impressions Theme for the 8300, 8800, 8900 & 9000

Brandy, from Artistic-Me’s latest release is called Impressions and the theme itself does seem to make a nice one, going by the screen shots. I was not able to test this theme myself but I have used some of Brandy’s themes before and I suspect this one works as impeccably well as the others. A brief description is below:

It’s a vibrantly clean beach-inspired Bottom Zen theme, featuring a bright color palette and textured glass elements; perfect for the summer season. It’s available for 83xx (Curve), 88xx, 8900 (Curve) and 9000 (Bold) BlackBerry devices running OS 4.5 or higher. (Theme is not compatible with the 8350i, running OS 4.6)

Sprint Getting Inferno Orange 8330 & Red 8350i… Does Anybody Care?

Username dropped this little tidbit in our forums about two new upcoming colors for the Sprint Curves. The 8330 will be available in Inferno orange starting 7/9 (Soft Launch) and the 8350i will be getting a red color starting 7/30 (Soft Launch).

I am not sure who is going to be picking these devices up after the Tour launches… Or if anybody cares. I know the 8330 won’t go away overnight but I know people are dying to upgrade their CDMA Curves after being teased with the Bold & 8900…

Not sure why the Tour is showing with 3 different launch dates not including the July 12th date they have already announced… Any ideas Username?

New FutureX Theme from Hedone Design

Hedone may have taken a hiatus a short while ago but he’s back now, and in a big way. This latest release, FutureX definitely raises the bar in theme concept designs. Available for a variety of BlackBerry devices including the 8300, 8700, 8800, 8900, 9000 & 9500, FutureX has a gorgeous wallpaper of spacious fields and bright blue skies. At the bottom of the home screen, there are 3 softly faded boxes. Each one contains a hidden dock (pops up when you click on it) of customizable icons (amount varies between devices). To hide the dock again, you just have to scroll down. And Hedone Design hits yet another home run!

Tashanna let me know that Hutchison has released OS 4.5.0.161 for practically every GSM variant of the Pearl, Curve, & 8800. This is not as new as .163 for the 8310 but its the latest for all the rest.

8310 OS 4.5.0.163 Officially Released by O2 UK

Older Curves have been left out in the cold when it comes to recent OS releases. They are still stuck with the memory leaks but RIM has been much slower in updating them. Raptor464 Let me know that the 8310 just got some official update love from O2 UK. The latest version 4.5.0.163 is newer than even the leaked version .153 we told you about at the beginning of the month.

Earlier this morning Raptor let me know that there was an Indonesian website that had OS 4.5.0.153 available for all GSM 8XXX series devices. He could not download them due to IP restrictions but it looks like he found a way around it! I have not seen an OS update for these devices in quite awhile so this should be a welcome update for many of you.

Tom let me know that Telus has officially released OS 4.5.0.160 for both the 8330 Curve and the 8830. That is the latest OS I know of for both devices and it is official so its worth grabbing.

Premium BussFast Theme from Hedone Design – Hurry for 20% Off!

That’s right, after a mini hiatus, theme designer extraordinaire Hedone is back in action with his latest release, BussFast. A stylish, yet no-nonsense design, BussFast has a total of 9 user customizable icons; 6 at the top bar and 3 on the left bar. Time, date and message indicators are all neatly stored at the top while you’re other information sits nicely at the bottom. Menus and fonts are crisp and clean and the whole theme works like a charm on my Bold. One thing to note is that BussFast was designed to be wallpaper friendly, and in fact, it looks really awesome with a variety of wallpapers. Just be sure to choose a background dark enough to stand against the white today screen calendar entries. As is stands, this theme is very attractive and functional and like all of Hedone’s works without a glitch (at least for me).

Premium PuzzleBerry Theme for the 8300, 8700, 8800, 8900 & 9000

I just love how some theme designers are thinking out-of-the-box these days. The guys at idberry are definitely at the helm of unique theme designs, at least IMO. One of their recent themes, PuzzleBerry is a mix of artsy style and colorful images…which incidentally can be your own. Let me explain…

On the home screen, you have a beach sand puzzle background which, when you choose a wallpaper of your own (a significant other, pet, car, whatever photo you like or take on your BlackBerry…) turns the theme into something more personalized. The neat part is that the wallpaper you choose fits nicely into the puzzle design so it makes for an interesting graphic image (see screen shot left).

The main page also features a bottom dock of 6 icons (the first 3 are default; messages, sms & calendar and the second 3 are customizable) and clean looking fonts. The theme worked very smoothly on the Bold version I tested but it is also available for the 8300, 8700, 8800 (OS 4.5) & 8900 (as well as the 9000). PuzzleBerry costs $5.99 and is available at our Berryreview Store. Please just make sure you read all of the information in the description before purchasing…so you know you’re getting the theme you expect.

Free Lush Theme from Eveek!

It was only just yesterday we did a mention about Elecite creating 10 of their popular themes for 8350i BlackBerry devices. Now, I must make mention of them again…this time eVeek…as they’ve just released their latest free theme LUSH. I haven’t even had a chance to take this baby for a test drive yet but you know I will. According to eVeek, Lush “sports a wallpaper-friendly vertical sliding bar of 7 icons. With space for Today icon previews you won’t even have to click on the icon to see what it’s all about. Just arrange your favorite 7 icons to the top of your application list and you’ll be able to see them on the front end. It’s a beautiful green theme you’ll use for a while.”

What’s even greater about this theme is that it’s supported for 8300, 8800, 8900, 9000 & 9500 devices. Yay!!

Premium WM6.5 Scroll Zen Theme from Kissberry Designs

Another theme site kicking out themes lately is Kissberry. This latest design, WM 6.5 Scroll Zen is all about the sharp fruit images and bright scrolling icon bar…the latter of which has 10 customizable icons which scroll seamlessly as you move about. The selected icon is clearly indicated with a large circle around it. I tested the Bold version and like the overall movement of the theme.

As you can see from the screen shots, this theme is available for many BlackBerry devices including the; 8300, 8800, (4.5) 8900, 9000 & 9500. They’re all available for $6.99 at our Berryreview Store but I highly recommend that you check out all the screen shots and read through the entire description before ordering so you can ensure you are getting the theme you want. I’ve been mentioning this a lot lately but as more theme designers come forth, everyone designing things differently for a variety of devices, it’s best to know what you are ordering up front.

Premium iVista2 Theme from The Z Man

I had seen the iVista theme around and quite fancied its interesting design but I knew The Z Man (aka Zach) was making some interesting updates to it, so I was happy when he had it ready for me to do a review. Enter iVista2…available for a variety of devices such as the; 81xx, 83xx, 87xx, 88xx (OS 4.5) as well as the 82xx, 89xx, 9xxx & 95xx.

On the left side of the main screen, there are a total of (9) user customizable icons. The top (4) and the bottom (5) which are the first (9) icons you arrange on your application screen. On the right side, you have a clock (which actually tells the right time) the battery indicator, a calendar icon (when you highlight it, your calendar entries appear to the left and when you click on it, it takes you to your calendar) and just underneath, your messages icon. Whew! That was a lot to say…but in truth, there is lots going on in this theme. However, that said, the Bold version I tested was extremely easy to maneuver through. I have to say, I am pretty impressed with this theme. The more I use it, the more I like it!

Take note that the theme does vary a bit between devices (as you would suspect because of the differences in screen size, etc) but more screen shots can be found at this link. So take a good look at the theme shots for your device before purchasing. And BTW, you can purchase the theme right in our Berryreview Store for $6.00.

Premium ‘Sand!’ Theme from idberry

These days it seems that the folks over at idberry are whipping out themes faster than ever! One of their latest, Sand!, has a unique and interesting design. The screen is filled with soft beach sand that’s gently dusts over a polaroid ‘image’…the image being whatever picture you put in there via your choice of wallpaper. On the main screen of the Bold version I tested, you have 6 icons. The first three; messages, calendar and sms, are permanent and cannot be changed. The the last three are customizable (they are the first three you choose on your application page). All in all, this theme ran really smooth and the graphics looked extra sharp.

Sand! costs $5.99 and is available for a variety of devices from the 8300 & 8800 (running OS 4.5) as well as the 8900, 9000 & 9500. As always, I recommend you looking at all the screen shots and read the entire description before purchasing to make sure you are getting the theme you expect. First their was their PSB theme (made to look like your Playstation) and now there comes XBerry, made to look like what else? Your XBox. Designed for the 83xx, 88xx, 89xx, 9xxx & 95xx, XBerry features a lot of neon lime green and dark accents. I was able to play with the Bold version and though admittedly, I’m not that fond of the XBox look, the theme itself worked really smooth and overall is very professionally done (as with all of Elecite’s themes). Also, to my surprise, it’s wallpaper friendly. So on the main screen, the wallpaper you choose shows up in the middle of the screen rather nicely. If you’re an XBox fan, and you own one of the BlackBerry devices above, this one is a no brainer.
