It is almost easier to list what device OS has not been updated over the weekend. I am not sure if all these pre-OS 5.0 updates are a good sign for 5.0 coming soon but hopefully they are just clearing out the pipeline.

UPDATE: Sorry for the typo the new OS is 4.5.0.169 not 167.

James let me know that US Cellular has updated their OS for the 8330, 8330m, 8130, 8130m, & 8830. That brings them all up to date with the latest OS 4.5.0.169 which seems to be the latest OS available as far as I remember.

Verizon Updates to Official OS 4.5.0.138 for 8130 & 8330 – Not the latest…

Quite a few readers let us know that Verizon has updated the official OS for the 8130 and 8330 this week. These are not the latest official version as we have seen on other carriers but many Verizon users are stuck with official OS versions due to corporate end user device policies.

If you are on another carrier or can upgrade your own OS you can find newer upgrades.

Tashanna let me know that Hutchison has released OS 4.5.0.161 for practically every GSM variant of the Pearl, Curve, & 8800. This is not as new as .163 for the 8310 but its the latest for all the rest.

8110 OS 4.5.0.158 Officially Released by AT&T

The older 8XXX series devices have not been seeing much update love recently so I am trying to point out their upgrades when they are available. Cory let me know that AT&T has released OS 4.5.0.158 for the 8110 Pearl which is a newer version than even the latest leak. It weird that AT&T only updated the 8110 OS but I guess weirder things have happened.

Earlier this morning Raptor let me know that there was an Indonesian website that had OS 4.5.0.153 available for all GSM 8XXX series devices. He could not download them due to IP restrictions but it looks like he found a way around it! I have not seen an OS update for these devices in quite awhile so this should be a welcome update for many of you.

Premium iVista2 Theme from The Z Man

I had seen the iVista theme around and quite fancied its interesting design but I knew The Z Man (aka Zach) was making some interesting updates to it, so I was happy when he had it ready for me to do a review. Enter iVista2…available for a variety of devices such as the; 81xx, 83xx, 87xx, 88xx (OS 4.5) as well as the 82xx, 89xx, 9xxx & 95xx.

On the left side of the main screen, there are a total of (9) user customizable icons. The top (4) and the bottom (5) which are the first (9) icons you arrange on your application screen. On the right side, you have a clock (which actually tells the right time) the battery indicator, a calendar icon (when you highlight it, your calendar entries appear to the left and when you click on it, it takes you to your calendar) and just underneath, your messages icon. Whew! That was a lot to say…but in truth, there is lots going on in this theme. However, that said, the Bold version I tested was extremely easy to maneuver through. I have to say, I am pretty impressed with this theme. The more I use it, the more I like it!

Take note that the theme does vary a bit between devices (as you would suspect because of the differences in screen size, etc) but more screen shots can be found at this link. So take a good look at the theme shots for your device before purchasing. And BTW, you can purchase the theme right in our Berryreview Store for $6.00.

8130 & 8130m OS 4.5.0.138 Released by Bluegrass Cellular

I had never heard of Bluegrass Cellular until Tim let me know that they have released OS 4.5.0.138 for their 8130(ESN) & 8130m(MEID) devices. Turns out they are a carrier in Kentucky…

This is a newer build than the .131 released by Sprint a bit back for the 8130. No word back yet on if it is better than recent builds but hopefully we will find out soon enough since .138 seems to be humming along just fine on the 8330s & 8830s.

Verizon Offers Easy Way to Add Russian, Hebrew, & Arabic to 8130 & 8330 Running OS 4.5

A bit back we told you about an easy way to add Hebrew font support to your BlackBerry offered by Cheservices. Most of the requests for Hebrew, Russian, & Arabic support seem to come from Verizon users so I thought it is worthy to mention that Verizon has offered an official solution. If you have OS 4.5 on your 8130 or 8330 you should be able to download Hebrew, Russian, & Arabic support to your BlackBerry from this link OTA. The download is designed for the official OS 4.5.0.77 specifically but it should work on other OS versions for those devices.

Premium Regal Theme from Artistic-Me.Com

It’s always a treat when theme designer Brandy comes out with a new theme design. Her latest, ‘RegalBB‘ is all that and more. I was able to test the demo version for the Bold (which the only difference between the demo version and final version is that on the final version, the theme is completely wallpaper friendly) and it ran smooth and easy. The dark, customized, wallpaper background is very rich and stylized. The cool looking icons on the ‘platinum’ style bottom dock makes for a very nice set-up. Overall, an extremely well executed theme.

Description: Regal is a retro inspired Bottom Zen theme that features a dark patterned wallpaper, accented by slick black icons and silver metal elements. Premium Pink theme for the 8100, 8300, 8800 & 9000

Theme designer Seville is showing us ladies some love with his latest theme design, Pink.

Pink is for all the ladies out there who have been missing ‘girly’ theme designs for your BlackBerry. It comes in Bottom Zen and Today styles. I was able to play with this theme on my Bold and it runs very smoothly. The fonts in the ‘messages’ application for example are very ‘bubbly’ in style which, maybe be little hard to read for some, but go very nicely with the overall concept. The icons are basic ‘Bold like’ icons but highlight to cute pink flowers when you select them. A clean, yet pretty theme that’s available for 8100, 8300, 8800 (4.5) and 9000 devices and costs only $3.00 over at Sm0g.com.

Premium Noir Theme for the 8100, 8300, 8800, 8900 & 9000

My buddy Chad from Themes4BB just told me about a new theme for sale in the ThemesBB store called, Noir. From the sounds of it, Chad had a hand in the design concept while amusic brought the theme creation to life. Either way, these guys make a great duo in themes as Noir is rich in high quality images and dark (with a touch of red) ‘artsy’ style. The amount of icons on the main screen differ between devices (the screen shots below are the Curve version) but the overall concept is the same. I tested the Bold version and it worked very well for me. It’s also available for the 8100, 8300, 8800 (OS 4.5) and 8900 devices. Premium XBerry Theme for the 8100, 8300, 8800,8900 & 9000

As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been having some fun lately browsing through our store for new and interesting themes and it seems the folks at Vikysoft have just released their latest theme series called, ‘XBerry’. Available for 81xx, 83xx, 88xx (OS 4.5), 89xx & 9xxx devices, in a variety of styles, XBerry is a super cool looking theme!

I tested the Bold version and it runs really well for me. On the main screen you have a bottom right dock of 3 icons. Note that they are not user customizable, and I wish they were, but they are the ‘messages’, ‘call log’ & ‘calendar’ icons so that might work pretty well for most. On the top, there is a red bar that slides back and forth in animated fashion and when you lock your Berry…a whole ‘lock down’ animation happens. The video below is a good depiction of how it works on my Bold, however it may differ between devices. Either way, definitely a different look in theme designs. XBerry is available for $6.99 right here. I know many readers think that’s a steep price to pay for any theme (that’s about the highest I go) but for those of you who would pay the price, it’s a sharp looking theme that runs very smoothly. Just be sure to look at the screen shots in the store before ordering as the styles and wallpapers do differ between devices.

Premium Inspirat & Leopard Themes from Elecite

In the wake of several Windows and Mac OS based themes we’ve seen coming out, the guys at Elecite have decided to do their take with Inspirat and Leopard.

Inspirat, based on Windows OS, is all about pop up menus (like the ‘start up’ menu that slides up on the main screen when you scroll over the bottom left icon) and translucent like icons. This is a very clean and crisp design. The 5 home screen icons are customizable and in the start-up menu you have access to the application screen, profiles, connections, media and control panel (ie, options). If you select ‘shut down’ you can either lock your Berry or shut it off. All in all, this is a very functional theme. Leopard theme, based on Mac OS, follows suit with simplistic style and smooth graphics. The hidden bottom “platform” dock (which slides up as you scroll down) has 6 user customizable icons and the whole theme looks very much like a mini-Mac on your Berry. All your signal/battery indicators and date/time, etc are neatly placed in the thin bar at the top of the home screen. A clean theme for Mac lovers, Leopard is also available for 81xx, 83xx, 88xx, 89xx, 9xxx & 95xx devices and costs $6.99 at Elecite.Com.

Premium Animated ‘BerryCat’ Theme…Something a Little Different

Looks like Oran over at VikySoft.Com has really put some thought into his latest theme release: BerryCat. When he first sent his email to me with a review version to test on my Bold, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But actually, I was delightfully surprised! It’s not that we haven’t seen animated themes before, but BerryCat is unique in that its main feature is an original character (named BerryCat) who hovers on the home screen looking… well, kinda cute.

Nothing fancy on the icon set up, which is a bottom dock of 6 customizable icons, but on the main screen BerryCat’s eyes roll back and forth in animated fashion (both in home and locked screens) and there are other little features as well, which you can read below. I will mention the graphics on BerryCat theme, which are very sharp and colorful. Also, the theme works very nicely all around. It’s an interesting theme with its animation, but very clean in style… which I happen to like. Screen shots from my Bold are below.

Free Beatles Theme for the 8100, 8300, 8800 & 9000

Jennifer from Cool Blackberry Themes has sent in one of her recent themes called, Beatles. You can probably guess the subject of the theme without even seeing the screen shots but I’ll show them to you anyway. Based on the legendary band, this theme is definitely for all the Beatles fans out there. Even though there is a version available for the Bold, I haven’t had the chance to play around with this yet but I like the set-up on the main screen and her choice of images, icons and font style which go very nicely together. This is a free theme and you can access the 9000 version here and the 8300/8800 version here. (Just scroll down the page for each link to find the theme) As with many theme sites, registration is necessary to access these themes, but if it means getting them for free…might just be worth it for you.

Premium Droid Theme from Elecite.Com

I am always excited to see new themes from the guys over at Elecite/eVeek. This time it was Roland who sent me an email about their latest theme release, Droid which is, as Roland stated, “an almost perfect replica of the Android OS available…” A smooth running theme with all the looks and style of Google Android, Droid is available for 81xx, 83xx, 88xx, (OS 4.5 & up) 89xx, 9xxx and 95xx Blackberry devices. Quite a line-up.

I played around with the Bold version and I do like the overall crispness of the theme. The main screen has a bottom dock of 5 customizable icons and when you scroll all the way to the right, the wallpaper moves to display the other half of the background image and exposes another two rows of customizable icons. (Note that this feature is only available on the Bold & Javelin).

All in all, if you’re a fan of Google Android and want your Berry to sport its look, then this is a theme you should rock. For more info (and a link to a video) visit the purchase link. Droid is available for $6.99 at Elecite.Com.

Free Veneer Theme from eVeek

Peter from eVeek sent this one in to me last week and right off I’ll say that Veneer is a darn sharp looking theme! Available for 81xx, 83xx, 88xx and 9xxx devices, Veneer features a vivid image of a gorgeous sports car surrounded by rich black borders and light grey accents. The 6 icons (all customizable) are centered nicely within the bottom of the main screen and the time/date and battery/signal meters are all neatly lined along the bottom edge. This is an overall dark theme, with it’s black background and white type, but very well-done in design. If you’re a sports car enthusiast…you need this theme on your Berry. FREE at eVeek.Com

McKay from BPlay sent this one in to me last week, but I’ve been away so am just getting to it now. I did, however, have a chance to play around with this theme and I can say that Beachfront on my Bold is pretty darn cool. The main screen features this sharp photographic image of a gorgeous tropical beach where the waves animate gently onto the shore. It’s a very tranquil and relaxing site on your Berry and the animation is also on the locked screen as well. The theme is a pretty big file to download, but interestingly enough, it doesn’t lag at all as you move in and out of screens. What I like about BPlay’s themes is that they are always professionally done yet are reasonably priced. This one costs $5.99 and is available for most recent Blackberry devices except the 8830 at BPlay.com. Check out the video below!

Premium ‘Damask’ Theme for the 8100, 8200, 8300, 8800 & 9000

I hadn’t seen any new themes from theme designer Brandy (Artistic-Me.Com) in a while so I was delighted when she emailed me about ‘Damask‘. Damask reminds me of fancy French style parlors that you find in those huge, old mansions. The use of wood elements help with the visual quite nicely and the cream colored icons are perfectly in tune with the overall theme. According to the description, this is a wallpaper friendly theme, which means you can change wallpapers and it will effect the main, application and locked screens. (You know how much I love that idea!) I wasn’t able to test this theme personally but I have used Brandy’s themes before and she knows what she’s doing. The screen shots below are for the 8300/8800 version I believe, but the look stays true to this idea on pretty much all the device versions. However, I suggest you visit this page to view your specific device screen shots so there’s no question before buying. Also, a complete description of the theme is here. Damask is available for 81xx, 82xx, 83xx, 88xx & 9xxx devices running OS 4.5 & higher and costs $6.99.

Free “Distortion” Theme for the from eVeek.Com

This theme has been out for a bit, but this is my first chance to mention it. If you haven’t been to eVeek.com lately, you really should head on down there. Rollin posted about a recently released theme called ‘Distortion’. It’s a little reminiscent of Elecite’s Grunge theme that I did a review on a short while back, but seems a bit more colorful and ‘artsy’. I haven’t had an opportunity to toss this around on my Berry just yet, but it looks totally cool and seems to be getting some good feedback. Distortion is free for 81xx, 83xx, 88xx & 9xxx devices and is available for download via eVeek.Com.
