BlackBerry Slider Will Be Available With Virtual Sim Solution in India

BlackBerry Slider at MWC World

The BlackBerry Slider, which was shown off at MWC 2015, will be available towards the end of the ongoing financial year. The BlackBerry Slider will be targeting towards the mid to high end handset market, according to Sunil Lalvani, managing director at BlackBerry India.

What does this mean for us? Well, for most part, a financial year means the months between April to March, and if its end of the financial year, could it mean that the slider will not be available until the first quarter of 2016?

Nonetheless, Lalvani has mentioned that BlackBerry is seeking clearances from the Indian government to launch their latest virtual SIM solution (from Movirtu) in collaboration with Indian telecom service providers. This will be available on the BlackBerry slider when it launches.

“We are seeking clearance from regulatory authorities. We are also conducting pilots for the solution with operators here.

We hope to launch the virtual SIM solution by end of the year”, Lalvani said.

“The technology allows an individual to have both, a personal and business number on a single mobile device, with separate billing for voice, data and messaging usage on each number. People can switch between business and personal profiles easily without carrying multiple devices or SIM cards,” he said.

Currently, it’s working with Vodafone and Idea Cellular on ESBL and is hoping to rope-in two big telecom operators in the country in coming months.
