How To Subscribe to Public iCal Calendars (.ICS) On BlackBerry 10

A friend of mine pointed out to me that BlackBerry snuck in a feature into BlackBerry 10.2 that I totally missed. The BlackBerry HelpBlog pointed out that you can subscribe to iCalShare (ICS) calendars on BlackBerry 10. This allows you to easily add public holidays or team schedules to your calendar without having to maintain it yourself. There is a whole wealth of great iCal shares on and many more sources are available.

All you need to add a shared calendar is to follow these steps:

  1. On the home screen swipe down from the top of the screen
  2. Tap ftf-1021-cal-settings Settings > Accounts >   > Subscribed Calendar
  3. In the Calendar Name field, enter a name for the calendar
  4. In the Server Address field, enter the address of the public calendar in ICS format
  5. Tap Done

  1. Can you provide a complete example of the syntax please? For example, at they have a calendar “Glasgow 2014” for the Commonwealth Games. But if one simply enters as the server address in the BlackBerry account setup no connection can be made; dialog appears to indicate missing a port number. icalshare does not show syntax either on their website. This is not the first posting of an example (on any website) where the example is not sufficiently complete, so end user is frustrated by seeing something he could use but is stymied by inexactitude of the example. BTW a Google search for ical syntax comes back with a lot of answers but for the posting side not the connecting side. If you’re going to the trouble of posting, can you make it complete?
