The guys over at OurBerries just let us know that BlackBerry is giving away another 29 application this season, for Ramadan. Like the previous Christmas and Valentines day giveaway, it will be in form of 1 application per day, and it starts today. Unfortunately, there is no mention of which countries are eligible for this – yet.
In case you do not know, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, where Muslims worldwide observe this as a month of fasting. This annual observance is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The month lasts 29–30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon, according to numerous biographical accounts compiled in the hadiths. The word Ramadan comes from the Arabic root ramiḍa or ar-ramaḍ, which means scorching heat or dryness. While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids, smoking, and engaging in sexual relations – and in some interpretations they also refrain from swearing and vain talk. Food and drink is served daily, before sunrise and after sunset.
Whilst our muslim brothers observes Ramadan, BlackBerry will be giving away a series of applications, starting with Salat, a useful (built for BlackBerry certified) application to aid with their prayers.
Whilst it is definitely available here in Singapore, we are not too sure which countries are included in the promotional list, so do let us know!
