John Chen Plans for BBM to Hit $100 Million in Revenue Next Year

One of the smaller tidbits that was highlighted during the events yesterday was when John Chen started talking about BBM and his plans. He stated that he is setting up BBM to hit $100 million in revenue next year through new services along with data collection combined with advertising like sponsored BBM channels. My favorite was his quip to financial analysts stating that:

“If any of you like to focus on mathematics, percentage of growth, it will from be zero to $100-million, so you tell me what the percentage is,”

He did a great job handling all of the questions thrown his way and had a great attitude all around. I am really curious how his team plans on hitting that $100 million dollar target from 0 in a year…

  1. I heard he quote too but I thought I was dreaming while listening to his word very carefully. I was surprised to hear what he said, so I bought a few more hundred shares that I can afford to wait. I will accumulate more whenever I have the money. I have accumulated about 3000 shares so far. There is nothing to some people but it is a lot for me who makes about 30,000 a year.

  2. That’s an interesting idea. $100M? In one year? I’m a little skeptical of the high goal, however. I do wish him luck in the endeavor. I’m also curious of the data collection part of the equation.

  3. It’s called creating a base line, next quarter would be growth in percentage with comparisons all the way.

  4. Yeah its a pretty optimistic number. I am not sure any of the messengers made it up there that fast. Still if they keep moving fast they may be able to make it

  5. The answer is BBM Meetings 🙂 It will ROCK!

    • Actually, I’d like BBM Meetings to be free, but everything can’t be free. Perhaps 3 person meetings can be free but to have unlimited attendees, perhaps they might charge a nominal fee?
