BlackBerry is being very vague on if their new deal with Amazon will also include Amazon handling all of the native app store features currently managed by BlackBerry World. Their wording makes it seem like BlackBerry World will remain mostly for businesses and enterprise developers as part of their new enterprise application partner program. If this is true this could actually be a HUGE boon for BlackBerry developers because they will finally have an app store that has basic features like coupons and promotions.
BlackBerry World has always been a horrible execution for BlackBerry so it is actually good news that they are looking for an overhaul. I cannot speak towards how the relationship will work but hopefully Amazon is going to be a great partner. BlackBerry has confirmed that they will be taking advantage of the following Appstore developer features:
- Appstore Developer Select provides enhanced merchandising to improve discoverability. Qualifying apps receive 500,000 free mobile ad impressions across the Amazon Mobile Ad Network.
- Developer Promotions Console enables you to run pricing promotions, monitor results and adjust pricing options.
- Amazon Coins incentives reward customers to improve conversion.
- Free App of the Day is a curated promotional opportunity where Amazon offers one paid app to customers free each day.
