John Chen Loves Working On “Complex, High-Risk, High-Reward Puzzles”

John Chen bared a little more of his soul and plans for BlackBerry in a new interview with the Wall Street Journal in Jakarta. What I found most insightful was the fact that he has no intention of running BlackBerry as a niche company and how he is all about the turnaround. He stated point blank that BlackBerry is now all about focusing on the execution. He also stated that the Z3 is the lowest price point he plans on going.

What I found most interesting is how he details his job as an “emergency room doctor.” He has to be quick and decisive with no emotional attachment. He also details out how he meets with his management every two weeks to “tackle decision points” and makes the decision because a nondecision is also a decision.

Check out the full interview here. You may have to Google the title to get past the paywall.
