BlackBerry 10.3 Adding “Lift to Wake” and “Face Down for Power Save” Options

Two new options that showed up in BlackBerry 10.3 leaked betas are some advanced integration that really perked my interest. It does not really work reliably on my device but you have the ability to use sensors on the device to interact with it. The first two options are the ability to set your BlackBerry 10 device to “wake up” when you pick it up off a flat surface. On top of that you can separately set it to “power save” your device when you put it face down on a flat surface.

Pretty cool stuff!

  1. I love the power save option! It would be nice to drop the CPU down to a minimum too. It should have an option to do the same if it is upside down – ie in my pocket 🙂

  2. It’s a nice feature but I am afraid it might have a bad effect on the battery life as the sensors will be on all time.

  3. This is pretty neat and smart but … all this ingenuity and they still can’t give us the in-holster behaviour options we had in BBOS7 and before??

  4. Actually, there are now 4 actions. Here are the new “Advanced Interactions”:
flip to mute – “Placing the device face down will silence the device.”
flip to reply – “Flip the device face down while the phone is ringing to decline the call, and automatically send a customized text message.”
