BlackBerry Asks That You Run “Official Versions” of the BlackBerry 10 OS

Jeff Gadway over at BlackBerry means well when he recommended that users run an official version of BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 before installing the new BBM update. The thing is that Gadway naively forgets to mention that there are quite a few carriers that have yet to release an official version of OS 10.2.1 (or even 10.2) for many devices. For example, AT&T is the worst violator here with users still on OS 10.1. Gadway does state that “when you run un-official versions of software you are asking for problems” but he does not mention what happens when BlackBerry forgets about their real customers and leaves them running on dated OS versions…

  1. AT&T is not the only violator, we at Sprint are still waiting for the 10.2 and nobody knows anything. I installed the latest BBM without knowing that we were supposed to be running 10.2; no problems here yet.

  2. When It comes to leaks of software for anything, the companies who’s devices you are using will always say not to load leaked OS versions. I am with Telus in Canada and have been happy with first, the launch because we got our hands on the Z10 a week after the live worldwide reveal. Only the UK had bb10 before Canada. Also with OS updates, we are getting them as soon as BlackBerry releases the OS Updates. As for our neighbours to the south, I think it is ridiculous what AT&T and Sprint are doing by not releasing the 10.2.1, or even 10.2 for that matter and because of that I would be loading leaks too. I have loaded the 10.2 leak before it was released here. BlackBerry should really do something because it’s hurting them that people don’t even have 10.2 yet. It’s a shame what those 2 carriers are doing to their customers.

    • I totally agree, we should get our updates directly from BlackBerry instead of waiting for our carriers. Sprint is more concerned with Android and IPhone and is not with BlackBerry. Even Windows is getting the 8.1 update this summer.
