John Chen Explains His Turnaround Strategy in CBC Interview

John Chen

David let us know about a great interview CBC had with John Chen that they posted going into the weekend. He talks about the situation when he joined BlackBerry and what he has done to turn the company around. Nothing groundbreaking here but its great to hear the CEO articulate clearly what his plans are and why it was necessary to bring him in.

  1. I always get a better feeling when hearing John speak than I did with Thor. His focus is just more sound and believable.

  2. I actually had a conversation with a user this past week over a Q10, the concern raised was around no back button. Having used bb10 for a while now this was not an issue for me, but hearing them did make me understand the comfort users had in the ‘Belt’ of buttons as it’s termed. After hearing this and understanding that users concern, I do feel that bringing something like this back, although small, may just be a deal breaker for some in their upgrades.

  3. I’ve used a bold for over 2 years now. And now using a Q5. I cannot imagine any longer why people would want a back button? The Q5 is “A LOT” more productive. There is no need for a back button. The back button would only slow you down.
My opinion, but I’m one of those die hard BOLD users that can never go back to BOLD since my Q5 experience.
