One of the small tidbits that came out during John Chen’s intro on the financials call was about Apple CarPlay. Chen confirmed that there is a consortium for the connected car called MirrorLink based on DLNA. This is on top of heavy hints about this in the past. 1. So in other words there is no profit made in this partnership at the moment just bragging rights, as well as the recognition from others that know QNX is under the hood or Apple CarPlay.

    • Correct. However there will be a concern that if the car play fails functionally we may see a backlash that it’s BlackBerry’s fault and that may look bad again for BlackBerry. Unlikely, but tech is tech, it can fail at any point regardless of what or who it is. Another however though, QNX is a proven car system that does work and works well.

  2. I disagree. I think he meant its using the same microkernal based operating system. If Apple actually used QNX, we’d hear more about it.

    • I think you are mistaken. QNX is the actually foundation of CarPlay. Which means apple and QNX have a partnership and have been working together for awhile now. The only reason Apple was able to get CarPlay in vehicles is because of QNX

  3. Would love to see BB10 in CarPlay
