We heard from two developers this week about some concerns with the final BlackBerry $10K developer commitment. In case you don’t remember, last year BlackBerry attracted developers by promising $10,000 in revenue for any app that was Built for for BlackBerry approved and made at least $1,000 in sales. Now that the program has finally closed on March 4th 2014 some developers were worried that they had been excluded from the program due to a discrepancy between the original terms and conditions and a blog post that was published.
BlackBerry is doing the right thing in this situation and has promised to honor all the submissions that meet EITHER set of conditions. When I reached out to them for clarification they provided the following statement:
"On March 4, 2014 the BlackBerry $10k Developer Commitment program came to an end. At that time, it came to our attention that there were discrepancies between the original terms and conditions and a related blog post originally published on March 2, 2013. We corrected the blog post to accurately reflect the official program dates. We are honoring all eligible submissions received by the deadline as outlined in the official terms and conditions, or the original blog post. We can assure you that nobody who qualified will be missing out."
Kudos to BlackBerry for making sure that no developer who bet on BlackBerry 10 is left behind!
