BES12 Goes For the Throat of Other MDM’s With Free License Exchanges (EZ Pass)

BlackBerry Experience

BlackBerry is finally doing something I have been asking execs to do for over a year. They are offering a free EZ Pass program to deploy BES 10 (or BES12) at no additional cost. Specifically they are offering a free migration for customers to move from BES5 or other MDM platform to BES10 for free. BlackBerry will match any active on-premise BES license and convert it into a free BES 10 license. Where things get really interesting is that they will convert active licenses from other competing MDM vendors into a corresponding Silver Level BES10 perpetual license. Customers will also get free Advantage level technical support for the new license.

The new Silver and Gold licensing tiers are also a simplification by BlackBerry where

  • Silver includes full device, application, email and security management for BlackBerry, iOS and Android devices, including the unique BlackBerry(R) Balance(TM) technology for BlackBerry 10 smartphones
  • Gold adds BlackBerry’s Secure Work Space containerization solution for iOS and Android, and advanced BlackBerry 10 management and security features for the most security-conscious organizations, including government, financial services and healthcare.

I am glad BlackBerry has decided to get aggressive!

  1. Oh boy… Even companies that made bad MDM decisions will be able to jump in!

    This could be huge!

But how do you make money then? Is this just them seeding BES all over so they can claim “we’re the best, we’re dominant in the enterprise”?

Which they are. I just wanna know how they will profit from this.
