BlackBerry Devs Officially Contributing to Google’s Chromium Browser?

Add QNX Support

We told you last week that BlackBerry decided to pull their WebKit browser port out of the WebKit trunk. Samab pointed out to me that there may be more going on than meets the eye. I have been hearing about some big changes in the BlackBerry browser team (with the recent restructuring) but one of the changes is very interesting. Samab noticed that there are quite a few official BlackBerry developers working on the Chromium Browser project and submitting patches for adding features like QNX support.

In case you don’t know Chromium is the open source web browser project from which Google Chrome draws it source code. That includes the Android version of Chrome which makes this whole move very interesting. It could be that BlackBerry is planning on moving over to Google’s Chromium browser from Apple’s WebKit. On the other hand it could just be another port BlackBerry is working on for QNX.

Only time will tell but you can read more about Chromium here or on Wikipedia. Let us know if you spot any new developments!
