BlackBerry 10 WebKit Port Removed from WebKit Trunk

BlackBerry WebKit

BlackBerry made a huge push in late 2012 to upstream all of their awesome work with WebKit in BlackBerry 10 into the WebKit trunk. Now sadly it seems like all of that is reverting. Eli Fidler from BlackBerry has confirmed last month that BlackBerry has not been able to commit the effort needed to actively maintain our port upstream. They have now removed the code downstream of the trunk. I guess this might be necessary as BlackBerry downsizes to become more nimble. On the other hand the awesome WebKit browser is one of the best features of BlackBerry 10 and I hope BlackBerry is able to keep it on the bleeding edge…

Kudos to Peter for pointing this out via WebKit and this forums thread by samab.

  1. Can someone explain this to me in layman terms? How does this affect us?
