BlackBerry 5 & 6 Finally Placed on End of Life List – Windows Live Messenger to Join Shortly

EOL

BlackBerry has finally put BlackBerry OS 5 and 6 on the end of life list. BBNews.pl spotted the OS versions on the end of life list which is no surprise since these devices have not been sold for two and four years respectively. BlackBerry OS 7.0 and 7.1 remain on the supported list in terms of software updates and support. Keep in mind we are not hearing any reports from BlackBerry 5 and 6 users that their devices have lost any BIS or BES functionality but who knows from now on out.

Also on the end of life list is Windows Live Messenger which will be discontinued on BlackBerry 10 and legacy devices starting in April. That is no surprise since Microsoft has moved on to Skype.

  1. BIS support won’t be an issue.

BlackBerry devices running 4.5 and older OS versions still connect and work as intendet to this day. There will come a time when OS7.1 will go EOL and that too won’t be an issue.

The day they say BIS support days are numbered is when we’ll see angry mobs…

  2. Whatever happened to Skype on BlackBerry 10 10.2.1.X?

  3. will continue to be a Storm2rooper :)

  4. Well I still have a 9650, OS6 and am holding out till Sprint has more BlackBerry options besides the Q10.
