BlackBerry 10 Lineup Dominated by a Single Phone

While the BlackBerry 10 operating system actually supports a full line-up of phones, it is most closely associated with the BlackBerry Z10. Not only was this the first BB10 phone launched, but by the end of 2013 it was still the most popular.

According to data collected by BlackBerry World for downloads of the free checklist app Stuff I Need, the Z10 still holds over 62% of the marketshare, which is more than twice as much as the Q10 (which is the second largest). The full distribution of devices for the month of December is show below.

While it is fun to get caught up in the excitement of the newest phones, and the latest rumors of what is to come next, for most people BlackBerry 10 is still about the phone that started it all.

  1. I’m not sure data based on a single app in BlackBerry World is a indicator of anything. WTF?

    • I was thinking the exact same thing. Which device is used to download an app is not remotely indicative of which device is more popular. That said, and this irrelevant metric aside, I do believe the Z10 is the most prevalent BB10 device for now.

But yeah, WTF with this article??

  2. Sampling is a pretty standard tool for these types of statistics. Given a large enough sample size (which this app has) the sampling errors are likely to be very low.

  3. That said, sample bias may be present in some form or fashion. What if the app is optimized for touchscreen phones? Or what if demographic that uses q series is not interested in apps or this particular app?
