BlackBerry Ending "Collaboration" With Alicia Keys This Month

Alicia Keys

After a year as “Creative Director” at BlackBerry it seems like enough is enough. BlackBerry announced that Alicia Keys will be ending her role as creative director on January 30th. BlackBerry had tried to position keys as actually involved in product operations but that seems to never really have happened. The Globe and Mail even quipped that the stock went up after the announcement…

  1. Finally, this should have been done a few months after BB10’s launch. IMO she has not contributed nothing to the BB10 platform. Smart Move by BBRY. Now Hire Justin Bieber as BB10 brand ambassador ASAP.

  2. Hey, at least we got to see her concert at the last BlackBerry Live.

I think both can be happy that this partnership will soon end. Maybe Alicia Keys even more so than BlackBerry.

  3. Yeah very little synergy in thus collaboration. Makes you wonder who’s idea it was…

  4. About time.

  5. Is there ANY document anywhere within BlackBerry that shows how Keys did ANYTHING to benefit BlackBerry or BB10??? I mean, they announced her as “Creative Director” (which to me seemed like a made up title with no real purpose right from the jump) then we heard not one thing of value out of her for the remainder of her tenure.

I’m a fan of Keys, but her last album was pure garbage. There were literally HUNDREDS of more valuable celebrities to make a strategic alliance with! As much as Rhianna (wonder if her parents were huge fans of “Rhiannon” by Fleetwood Mac) and Miley Cyrus post tweets and such, a BB10 alliance with them would have been killer, despite WHAT they were tweeting. As long as they were seen tweeting it with a BB10 device, it would’ve been good advertisement for BlackBerry. Heck, even Kim Kardashian would’ve been a better choice. In a new world of the “selfie,” people would want to know what device they’re taking that [inappropriate] pic with, “Hey, is that a BLACKBERRY [Z10/Q10]?!? Wow! That must be a pretty cool device! I’m gonna go try/buy one.”

And instead of putting them on the payroll, just pay them off to post stuff with a BB10 device; $100 dollars for every tweet with a BB10 device, $500 for every selfie posted with a BB10 device and the BB10 device is prominently displayed in hand, $1000 if it’s risque.

I think extremist groups have better, more convincing marketing tactics than BlackBerry! LOL
