BlackBerry Confirms that They "Intend to Support BlackBerry OS Indefinitely" (Legacy Devices)

Bold 9900 and 9930

BlackBerry let us know that their Managing Director for India seems to be incorrect about support for BlackBerry legacy OS devices.  They contacted us to correct the story and it turns out that no such determination has been made. Here is BlackBerry’s official statement:

“BlackBerry intends to support the BlackBerry operating system indefinitely. Any comments to the contrary are not correct.”

That leads me to wonder what “Indefinitely” means but it does not seem like they have decided on that anytime soon… On the other hand as there are less legacy BlackBerry devices in the wild BlackBerry’s NOC cost will be spread across a much smaller income stream to support it…

  1. It’s pretty sad and hard not to laugh at how the big heads are very poorly informed about BlackBerry’s future plans…

  2. Would that mean that Legacy devices will continue to be updated? I still have a 9650

  3. Indefinitely = For an unlimited or unspecified period of time.
In other words, that Managing Director for India should have not mentioned nothing about the new BBRY and its decisions going forward.

I can see BBRY supporting legacy devices to a certain extent, but that’s about it, no new BBOS hardware coming no more.
