Review and Giveaway! 20,000 mAh Professional Power Pack by Roving Power

When the folks at Roving Power reached out to us to review one of their power packs, I jumped at the chance. When I came across their Professional monster I was sure the battery capacity was a typo. Twenty thousand (20,000) mAh! That’s over triple the juice of my other external battery so I couldn’t wait to try this behemoth out. Keep reading for details about how you can enter for a chance to win your very own Professional Power Pack courtesy of Roving Power.

Apart from the massive capacity, what sets this power pack apart from the…pack, is the ability to charge a laptop and other device simultaneously. You can even charge 1 or 2 devices while the pack itself is plugged into the wall, juicing itself up. Now that’s multitasking. I have tested out other products that shut down output while they are being charged.

As you can see in the above picture, the pack comes with a North American AC adapter used to charge the pack, a laptop charging cable with 8 adapter heads, and a soft carrying case. The aluminum encased device weighs in at 510 grams / 1 pound 2 oz. and is well constructed. It takes beween 4 and 6 hours to charge the pack and the discharge time completely depends on what it is used to charge and how often. There was an adapter head that fit my HP Pavilion G7 laptop perfectly.

I find using this power pack much more convenient than plugging the laptop into the wall. I liked being able to have the pack in the soft case to keep it protected. This is made possible due to all of the ports and the power button being on the same side.

To turn the pack on, hold the power button for about 2 seconds. It will default to 12V (laptop) and 5V (USB) output. To change the output to what works for your laptop, double tap the power button until the blue LED moves to the correct voltage. If you’re wondering which voltage is best for your laptop, just check your wall charging adapter. My G7 wall charger has an output of 19.5V so the 19V option on the Professional Power Pack is the best choice. The USB port always remains powered as long as the pack is turned on.

To check how much juice is left in the pack without turning it on, push and release the power button. Depending on the percentage of remaining power, between 1 and all 4 of the LED lights  on the bottom left of the button will light up. The pack will turn itself off after a minute of inactivity. If it is charging a device, it will not turn itself off.

  5. I’m sorry, just WHY do you require a.Twitter handle in order to enter? For what will they be used? Not everyone has, or wants, one you know…

This looks like a nice device to have around as backup for my laptop. Too bad it doesn’t support the 14.6V I need.

Kinda curious that with such a huge capacity this thing doesn’t have more than one USB port.

For laptop charging you can choose the voltage closest to what you need and it should work fine. In your case I would guess 16V would do the trick.
Roving Power offers the Socialite power pack option that does have 2 USB ports. The Pro pack is specifically designed to handle laptops and one other device.

      • Applying 16v to a device that requires 14.6v wouldn’t be wise, electrically speaking. And likewise applying 12v is unlikely to activate the input circuitry. Voltage needs to be a near exact match, most devices will only tolerate perhaps a couple tenths variation.

  6. I would use this product when I am camping with my son and the Boy Scouts, especially during summer camp. @Cmdr_Kane

I am actually experiencing a power outtage as I write this comment so I know exactly how useful this giveaway would be for me. My mom’s phone is about to die and I am taking the chance to enter because I turned my phone on to get the some news and this is one of the first things I saw. We take for granted being able to be connected all the time and that has never been more clear to me than now. Having to ration my phones usage is difficult because I’m always online.

  26. I would use the power pack to charge my Q10 or PlayBook whilst on the go. Considering that I am glued to my device, the Roving Power Pack would keep my device charged and with full battery. I do currently have a battery pack but it seems to have gone haywire, suddenly going off with near-to full charge and so so.
    Thanks for the giveaway!
    Happy Hols!

  27. 20000mAh is really huge. I use a RAVPower 14000mAh external battery charger. It’s powerful and can charge my iPhone up more than 7 times. I had a camp a few weeks ago, it saved me a lot, charged everyone’s phone and still have almost half juice left when I got home.

  28. I’ve been looking for something like this that could charge my net book and any mobile device. I would use the power pack to charge my net book when I’m low on power and not near an outlet to plug into.

Thanks Roving Power and BerryReview for holding this contest. Good luck everyone and happy holidays! 🙂
