On today’s conference call BlackBerry CEO John Chen made a pretty bold statement. He said that for the foreseeable future BlackBerry would be focusing on the enterprise only high end devices. They hope to one day come back to building consumer devices but for now they will have Foxconn building low end consumer devices for emerging markets. For now they need to focus on rebuilding their enterprise devices, software, and services until they get on more stable footing.
That means the only new BlackBerrys that are coming in 2014 are going to be low end 3G devices from Foxconn for the emerging markets. This could explain why Chen wants to stay in hardware for enterprises but not for consumers.
