Pentagon Rolls All Users Back to BlackBerrys Before New MDM Rollout Next Year

BBM Cross Platform

It seems like BlackBerry still has a chance to make a major play in the US government MDM plans. The government has already stated that they plan on opening the door for BlackBerry 10 along with Android and iOS in the next year for their 100,000 devices. Now as they prepare for that move they have revoked all of the current iPad and Android devices as they transfer from Good to Fixmo.

This means that all Pentagon issued Android and iOS devices will become useless until at least March according to NextGov. They heard from Army personnel that:

"Expectation is that Droid and iThing users will be deviceless until March 2014 at earliest, and they can either do without or go back to a BB 9930,"

Should be interesting to see how this all plays out…

  1. Haha, EPIC.
They should just all out dump both iThing and Droid in favour of BB10, for obvious reasons, one being its the most secure. Not to mention, BB10 is far superior in every single way bar none.

  2. Great news, thanks for sharing.

  3. Do we know if the MDM is BES10? That would be sweet as it puts BlackBerry back in the driver’s seat.

  4. The mention of “going to Fixmo” is a direct competitor to BES10 – Is FIXMO just for non-BlackBerry devices I wonder? Heading to their webpages they’re VERY proud of the contract award.

  5. I just did some reading.

    1) According to DISA approval documents, only BlackBerry phones and Playbook tablets have an “authority to operate,” or ATO, on Defense networks — not Android, Apple or any other device lines.

    2) FIXMO is ONLY getting IOS and ANDROID devices. BES is still part of the pie.

  6. FIXMO is ONLY getting IOS and ANDROID devices? Why wouldn’t they just use BES10 to manage and secure all devices? This obviously doesn’t make sense. At this point BES10 and BB10 offer the best mobile Security to date.

  7. PLEASE BLACKBERRY! Get either a Q10NC or a Q30NC out the door ASAP! It’s not too late to get DOD back in the fold….
