BES 10.2 Adds Control in Case BlackBerry 10 Gets Rooted

BES root

BlackBerry has added an interesting new control in BES 10.2 that they just detailed in the change log. BlackBerry 10 really has not had issues with being rooted but the PlayBook was jailbroken previously. Now it seems like BlackBerry is finally putting in some controls in case this possible eventuality ends up happening. Here is how they describe the control:

BlackBerry device Integrity Alert compliance rule: The Integrity Alert compliance rule allows you to specify the enforcement action that the BlackBerry Device Service takes if an attacker were to discover how to obtain root access or escalated privileges on a BlackBerry 10 device. An enforcement action can be one of the following:

  • Automatically notify users using email and a device notification message
  • Block users from accessing your organization’s resources and applications from their device
  • Delete your organization’s data from the device
  • Delete all work data from the device

This feature is supported on devices running a version of BlackBerry 10 OS that is 10.2.1 or later.

  1. Great. Now we know for sure it can be done.

    Brace for it… ><

  2. All well and good, IF BlackBerry would get off their asses and get carriers pushing 10.2.1 out….
