BlackBerry Developer Interest Remains Relatively Flat According to Strategy Analytics

STRATEGY ANALYTICS SURVEY RESULTS

Strategy Analytics ran their developer survey again in September with over 1,600 active mobile developers. Windows Phone got a huge boost this year with over 32% indicating they were planning on supporting the platform next year compared to a previous 16%. On the other hand developer interest in BlackBerry has remained relatively flat around 10%. It dropped a little this year but future interest is back up to where it was last year. This is something that BlackBerry needs to find a way to change. All of their developer relations efforts in the last year or two do not seem to have made a dent… On the other hand this is a 1,600 developer survey so they could have missed the BlackBerry devs.

  1. What does one expect when BB management were on this swan song campaign for four months! Even pfizer is moving away from BlackBerry because of the uncertainty of the platform.
Indeed, we all know BB is not going out of business, and the worst case would be a sale to another company providing the same services – perhaps without the hardware business.
BB management needs to send a clear signal to users and developers.

  2. BBRY is finally under a new BOD and CEO. Things should get “MUCH” better. As for WP8? Absolutely No Thanks. Nothing about that platform is gratifying. BB10 is a much better designed platform. Eventually they will get the soul called high profile apps, until then Enjoy installing Android apps on BB10.

WP8 essentially failed in North America, and for good reason.

  3. VIRGIN TO CARRY Z30 : NOTE: I have the Torch 9810 (great phone) and am with Virgin in Canada. Today (Nov. 22, 2013) I called Virgin to ask when / if they will carry the Z30 in Canada. They told me Yes, they will start offering the Z30 by “mid-December 2013.”. Those are all the details the agent would offer me. Tony in Montreal.
