BlackBerry Acquired ScrOOn in May to Help Profit from BBM

Bloomberg spotted the disclosure by BlackBerry that it acquired French startup, ScrOOn, in May of this year. That is right before they once again put out the feelers for a sale of the company. ScrOOn manages Facebook, Twitter and other social-media accounts for large clients like luxury-good maker LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA, wireless operator Orange SA and Warner Bros. Entertainment. They did not detail how much the acquisition was for…

ScrOOn startup founder Alexandre Mars told Bloomberg that this acquisition is all a part of profiting from BBM. These new BBM channels will allow BlackBerry to offer new opportunities for advertisers. The founder also said he hadn’t disclosed the purchase by BlackBerry before because of the “delicate media buzz” around the company.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out. This is BlackBerrys first acquisition since Paratek in

  1. Could that be part of their losses last quarter??

    • Possibly but that had more to do with the writedown

      • What was all that jazz about BlackBerry Z10 out selling the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy and topping the charts in Canada and India about???
If they don’t advertise when it comes out to support any and all apps from android, then they just shot them selves in the foot…
