Alec Saunders, Head of BlackBerry developer relations, followed up on our interview with a great post on the BlackBerry DevBlog. Essentially he details how BlackBerry is “upping their game” for Android support to make it easy to bring your app to BlackBerry World. He goes on to explain that “Simply put, BlackBerry World is where your app belongs.” He goes on to explain that:
BlackBerry World is the first place that millions of customers go to find trusted applications. You’ll be able to tap into BlackBerry Payment Services, automatically push your latest updates to users, read customer reviews, and take advantage of discoverability and other exclusive marketing opportunities to optimize for success.
In other words simplifying the testing and spreading of Android apps on BlackBerry 10 is a plan to bring the developers to BlackBerry World in a grassroots effort. Essentially Android developers no longer have to go through the pain in the ass sign up process BlackBerry World vendors have to deal with just to see if their apps work. The irony is that the only devs who have to use the annoying sideloading process anymore is native app developers…
I am just glad that sideloading Android apps from your computer with dev mode is no longer required…
