BlackBerry Decides Not to Hold BlackBerry Jam Europe in 2014

BlackBerry Jam-000623

BlackBerry usually sends out details on BlackBerry Jam Europe by now which had a few developers wondering what was up. It turns out that BlackBerry has decided not to hold BlackBerry Jam Europe next year in early 2014. They have posted the following message on the BlackBerry Jam website:

We’ve taken a look at how to best meet our goals with BlackBerry® events. As part of this process, we have made the decision that we will not be hosting BlackBerry Jam Europe in 2014.

We will continue to engage with our developers in more focused ways, designed with a greater emphasis on the opportunities we have to talk to our developers about what matters most to you

This sort of makes sense considering the change of management and possible change of direction for the company. On the other hand BlackBerry may just try to join something like Mobile World Congress which is a much bigger cross platform event. That is actually how BlackBerry Jam Europe first started as an app development event in Mobile World Congress. Or maybe we will see more virtual conferences like they did recently…

We will let you know if we hear anything from BlackBerry!

  1. virtual conferences are never the same as face-to-face meetings. hopefully there will be something at MWC

  2. thx.
was a surprise for me – didn’t know about before

  3. That is a serious mistake, as again it shows a lack of confidence in the company’s direction and their BB10 platform. How can they continue to attract developers if they aren’t courting them and showing them how to develop for BB10? The Jam conferences have been huge successes for the company. Sorry guys, there is no good way to spin this.
