Contact Groups Show Up in Latest BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 Leak

Contact Groups

I mentioned in the past that it sometimes feels like the developers working on BlackBerry 10 have never used a legacy BlackBerry 7 device. This seems to be finally changing if what we see in the latest OS leak is officially released. One of the features legacy BlackBerry users have been asking for is Contact Groups. This allows you to group multiple contacts into a sort of distribution list on your BlackBerry 10 device. Contact Grouping is something that BlackBerry has offered on legacy devices for years and something that both Android and even iOS still struggle with until this day.

Its nice to see its coming. Thanks Frank for sending in this screenshot! Let us know if you can confirm on your device since I want to see if it syncs your distribution lists with Exchange or even Google Contacts. It still blows my mind that Android and iOS don’t let you do this.

  1. Contact groups is soo overdue! This is a must have on a true business device.

However, I also want to see some changes to BBM groups. There should be hierarchy of groups, such that stuff I post to one group may or may not be posted to the other groups based on that hierarchy — of course, organized by me 🙂

This will help reduce the need to post the same photo or message in multiple groups.

Also, on that topic, why can’t we have a hierarchy of list items in BBM?

  2. Maybe now I can finally get the Q10. This is the one thing I’ve used a BlackBerry for more then anything else the last 5 years. Now if they can only add categories back.

  3. Yeah its pretty awesome that they are finally getting it.

What are you talking about list items in BBM?
