BlackBerry Z30 Natural Sound BBM Feature Coming to All With OS 10.2

Some of you may have been wondering if the new "Natural Sound" BBM feature is purely a Z30 exclusive or just an updated OS 10.2 feature? I am happy to report that it is a bit of both. We learned that the new Natural Sound feature will be available to all BlackBerry 10 smartphones as part of the soon-to-be-released free, over the air software update to 10.2 OS. That being said, with stereo speakers and four microphones that are carefully integrated as well as software tuning carried out by BlackBerry’s expert audio engineers, users will be able to experience BlackBerry Natural Sound to the fullest effect with BlackBerry Z30, including during some the toughest real-world environments, enabling them to “share like they’re there”.

The Z30 has just recently been seen in FCC postings for North America so it is a matter of weeks before American and Canadian Carriers start selling the Z30 in time for the holiday season.  In BlackBerry JAM Asia a Verizon branded Z30 was also spotted and posted elsewhere as well.

PS: I know many of you with leaked OS builds have already seen this feature but we had a few readers ask about it.

  1. It should get even better in the next revision with the addition of Nuance Vocon (State-of-the-Art Speech Recognition Engine)

  2. Where did you hear that?

    • It’s been in 10.2 during the whole beta phase, but was removed at the last minute.
It’s back in 10.2.1 and hopefully will stick this time.

    • How does Natural sound compares with HTC One’s boom speakers Ronen? I hope BlackBerry promotes this.

      • There’s a youtube vid around somewhere that shows the sound difference. You can immediately notice the difference when the Z30 is playing. It’s way better sound then the HTC One. & that’s saying a lot because the HTC One has respectable sound 🙂

  3. During the recent reviews of Z30, what was the OS version? Did different reviewers have different versions?

  4. When is 10.2 being released in the U.S.

  5. So this “natural sound” is supposed to give the device(s) better speaker audio quality? That will be a welcomed feature! (Not that I spend any appreciable time listening to audio through the phone speaker.) If it’s already included in any of the leaks, I’m not hearing any difference. Or the difference I’m hearing is still subpar compared to my old 9850. Sadly, the speaker sound on my 9850 device blows my Z10 away. I did a side by side comparison and the difference was remarkable.

  6. One thing that is interesting with the Z30’s 4 microphones is that they will detect orientation change and always output proper stereo sound through any output.
