BlackBerry.com Starts Selling Factory Unlocked BlackBerry 10 Devices Direct

BB_Direct_QWow, the time has finally come! For years I have been saying BlackBerry should be selling their devices direct to the consumer factory unlocked.  In the same fashion that Apple and Google do.  Well the time has come.  BlackBerry.com is now offering the Z10 and Q10 direct to the end user, and factory unlocked.  This helps with the American consumer, because of them passing the asinine law that unlocking a cell phone is illegal.

Consumers can now head over to the BlackBerry.com store and choose the device of their choice.  These devices are GSM only variants, so Verizon carriers are out of luck.  Now these are also not listed as 100-5, 100-3, or 100-1… so these are the ones that include all bands (same as the ones distributed at the launch events an BlackBerry Live).  It seems the service is only available to users in the USA, and ships only within the USA.  Here is the link again, and let us know what you think of this decision.

  1. Seems to be able to take a Canadian and Mexican address, as well.

  2. Great idea! The other carriers are too beholden to Android and iPhone to market BlackBerry properly BlackBerry would be wise to mount another advertising, this time including head to head match with against the competition. Be Bold BlackBerry.

  3. Yes, enough is enough! Take control. Blaze your own trail. Empower users and give them all the options. Skip the middle man!

Apple did the same and forced carriers to do things their way. BlackBerry had similar clout in 2007 but they allowed the carriers to control their fate. Apple also sells iPhones on-line and in their own stores – as if BlackBerry didn’t know already!

  4. Error system
