A-Solar Power Bank 7000 Charger Review

asolar charger

You might be thinking this is a solar powered charger. You would be mistaken. A-Solar is the name of a company that does make some solar powered products, but this is not one of them. When I received this portable charger from for review I eagerly opened up the packaging and tried to open the charger to reveal the solar panels. It was then that it all came together. :( All was not lost though. I still had a portable charger that is quite compact and able to charge 2 devices at once.

The 7000 in the name is not as misleading as the brand name. This charger packs a 7000 mAh li-ion battery and comes with connector cables for iPhone, iPad, and any other devices that use Mini USB or Micro USB.

As I have tested out this charger I have not been too impressed. Charging seems to take longer than normal and it has an auto-off “feature” that stops charging automatically. There is no on/off switch. Just the big silver button that acts only as an on button, or wakeup button. I frequently found myself having to come back and push the button to restart the charging process. The 4 LED lights beside the silver button show you how much juice is remaining.

There are 3 ports on the front of the charger. The middle one (Micro USB) is for charging the charger itself. Which brings me to another drawback I found: this little guy is not the best multitasker. When the charger is charging itself, it will not charge any other devices. It will charge 2 devices at once as long as it is not charging itself.

The 2 ports flanking the port marked “IN” are for charging other devices. There is only one USB multi cable included with the charger but most of us have extra cables lying around.

If I were to recommend a portable charger it would definitely be the Zagg Spark 6000 which I have been using for a long time. Features include: fast charging of 2 devices, on/off switch and the ability to charge itself and devices simultaneously. Check out our full review here.

If you are looking for solar powered devices, there are plenty of others featured on MyTrendyPhone’s website. Just read the descriptions carefully. :) also has a massive selection of BlackBerry accessories. More useful links below.

  1. I own one and find it very stable and good product.
Although there are lacks as you mention, still it’s a great product, primarily because of it’s capacity (can charge more than 3x times my Q10). The break in charge might happen because of the connectors being lousy. I lost my first micro USB connector but wrote to the company (I reside in The Netherlands and the company is NL based as well) and they sent me a new one for free. That was a huge plus.
But the second is also a bit lousy, so I rather use the default USB cable of the charger.

  2. Confusing name! I was thought it’s a solar powered battery. I already got a RAVPower 14000mAh external battery charger for $43 (fairly street price) from Amazon. It works good. I was amazed by its performance.
