BlackBerry KB Confirms Lost SMS & MMS Bug In Latest 10.1 MR1 OS Update

KB34819

Has SMS on your BlackBerry 10 device gone a bit wonky since you upgraded to the new BlackBerry OS 10.1 Maintenance Release earlier this week? I am sad to report that we have been hearing about this since the launch. Users are reporting that they are losing their SMS since the upgrade to the new maintenance release. I have a more annoying issue on my update where even when I delete all SMS it still shows 1 unread SMS but when I click on any SMS it takes me to the compose screen.

Either way BlackBerry has confirmed the issue in a Knowledge Base article on the subject today. It confirms the issue with SMS and MMS on OS 10.1.0.4633. There is sadly no resolution timeframe yet.

PS: This is what I was talking about earlier in the week on Twitter. BlackBerry really needs a method to roll out a follow up update to fix these small bugs without waiting for a whole new 3 month release cycle.

  1. Interesting… good to know. I just did an update yesterday but the update that I received was for 10.1.0.4181 so I’m still an update or two behind. So far no issues with this one and I still have all my text msgs. I’m not sure if the carriers are still testing or they’re just letting Blackberry roll it out. Judging the OS that’s on mine I’m thinking some carriers are still running tests on them before releasing? I’m with Rogers. Hopefully when they do release the fix for it, Rogers will release the OS and the fix at the same time!

    • Hate to be the one to break it to you, but 10.1.0.4181 is the software release bundle number, which in this case includes… OS 10.1.0.4633.

Don’t believe it? Go to Settings->About and choose “OS” from the dropdown.

    • Please I’m scared to update cos I don’t won’t to loose my pictures and music on the device..will the update affect it?

  2. so what, I had that problem with BB protect on my 9810, so what else is new…

  3. I got the MR upgrade and then soon after an additional 6MB upgrade.

I haven’t noticed any issues so far.

  4. Yeah seems to be hit and miss. I’m curious what the issue is…

  5. I did the OS 10.1.0.4181 and lost texting capability. I could read old messages, but no send receive. I did not have texting enabled in the hub… I tried all the usual (reset, link to laptop). I spent an hour on the phone with blackberry tech service who said to wipe my phone… I suggested that if I did that it might turn into an iphone as the inconvenience was about the same. Meanwhile I kept playing – switched it to MMS and scrolled thru and opened pix. That fixed it. Hope this helps someone.

  6. I upgraded my BB Z10 very early this morning and discovered all my text messages were GONE!!!
I am not very happy at the moment because the texts contained vital work and family information.

  7. This is crazy but since I’ve been experiencing difficulties using my new BB Z10 even before i updated to the latest software. Now after an update, I’m starting to lose my sms. I can’t find the newly received ones unless I press on the thread of my previous messages.

How would you know if there’s somebody who texted you?

What I actually did that actually didn’t solve the problem permanently is that I restart the phone each time this “bug” bugs me, then it will go back to normal. But then after a few hours, it will return to its worst state.

Maybe there’s somebody who could provide us a solution for this. Or at least Blackberry would care to do something about this.

  8. i have just started using my blackberry z10. I would like to know your views on how often should I upgrade the OS. Or is it better not to upgrade at all ? Please let me know. I am new to blackberry .
