Carriers Start Rolling Out BlackBerry OS 10.1.0.4537 Maintenance Release

BlackBerryZ10-lifestyle3

BlackBerry just announced that starting today they have begun the rollout for the BlackBerry 10.1 Maintenance Release. This brings us to v10.1.0.4537 which is starting to roll out in Asia Pacific, Canada, and EMEA starting today and continuing into Latin America in mid August on most carriers. Sadly the US is STARTING to get it by the end of the summer. In other words Verizon is going to get it sometime in 2015 so hopefully the leaks continue.

Either way the update is a nice one with the following high level improvements:

BlackBerry Hub
New enhancements designed help you stay organized and in control of all your conversations:

• Quickly move between messages – Use a simple gesture to quickly move to the last or next message without having to return to the message list

• Jump to the last unread message – If you have a BlackBerry Q10 Pressing the ‘u’ key in the BlackBerry Hub will take you to the last unread message

• Email synchronization – ActiveSync and IMAP email users can adjust syncing preferences to keep emails on their BlackBerry smartphone for an unlimited time period

BlackBerry World
Search improvements help you find the apps, games and multimedia content you’re looking for. When you find that app – our new wish list feature helps you keep track of apps you want to download. Plus, this software update will automatically update your favorite apps like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to the most recent versions.

BlackBerry Balance
Manage work and personal conversations by letting you split out your work and personal accounts in to different views within the BlackBerry Hub.**

Check out the announcement here. BlackBerry is getting some serious egg on their face with these staggered global rollouts. Verizon FINALLY updated their users to a stable OS this Friday and already they are behind the ball. They really need to find a way to roll out OS updates globally within a reasonable timeframe especially when the OS update is mostly bug fixes and small improvements. (three to six months is not reasonable)

  1. Works great, Vodafone started the rollout yesterday and it went very smooth. The calendar is now with the white background on the Q10, while everything else got a little bit more snappy etc. :-)

  2. Was anything else added compared to the list of features published with the first release of 10.1?

Also, why would BB make the OS installation tied to carrier, unlike before, thus totally blocking user’s choice of OS version like we did up to 7.1
