BlackBerry Fires VP of US Sales Along With Upcoming Job Cuts

It seems like there is some drama playing out at Waterloo. BlackBerry confirmed to the WSJ that they have fired the VP of US Sales Richard Piasentin last month. Supposedly BlackBerry is also planning on cutting quite a few middle management jobs on top of the previous cuts last year. They do not know what those numbers will be but it is intended to lighten the costs of the company to manage cash flow.

  1. Well, if the VP of US Sales is to blame for the delay of BB10 into the US then he deserves to be fired… hahaha…

  2. This post hardly contains more content than the tweet I followed to get here. What’s dramatic moving forward about them letting this guy go? Catchy headline got me here, now where is the content?

  3. So… In other words, more bad news.

  4. Nah, it would be bad news if they let someone valuable go. US Sales have been a sore point for BlackBerry, so replacing the fella responsible, how can that be bad news…

  5. Oh, that wasn’t what I meant by bad news. US sales are obviously a weakness… My saying “bad news” referred to the upcoming job cuts, that’s never good news, though its a necessity.

  6. I think Alec Saunders (one guy) did a hell of a job with developers, so hopefully getting a new guy in this post will be good. Shame they couldn’t have fired the guy before the role out.
