Fake BBM App for Android Burns Thousands of Android users (100,000+)

Quite a few Android and iOS users are waiting for BlackBerry Messenger to come to their platform later this summer. That lead to a developer calling himself “RIM” to release a “BlackBerry messenger BBM” app on Google Play for Android. This lead to over 100,000+ Android users downloading the app before Google pulled it from the store. In truth the app just showed you a screen promising that the app would work on June 27th (previously rumored launch date that BlackBerry denied) and an agreement for StartApp to install bookmarks, icons, and more junk on your phone.

Either way this just goes to show the demand for a BBM app on other platforms. I wonder how many downloads the real thing will rack up.
