BlackBerry Bold 9930 Gets Official OS 7.1.0.991 from Verizon Wireless

BBM on Bold 9900

Verizon is always late to the game with their OS updates. Their latest brings OS 7.1.0.991 for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 if you have one. Still its nice to see a 2 year old device getting OS updates compared to other platforms.

Check out the latest update here

Warning: This OS will NOT install on any other BlackBerry besides the one mentioned above. If you do not know how to upgrade your BlackBerry OS please start by reading this step by step guide. Don’t forget to delete the vendor.xml file located in c:program files>common files>research in motion>apploader to install it on a different carriers device. Don’t forget our usual warnings: do not download and install these updates if you don’t know what you’re doing. Incorrect procedure or just bad luck could render your BlackBerry inoperative or unstable.

  1. This update was fantastic. I have 3 blackberries on my desk right now which are bricked and no longer usable….
Verizon said to talk to Blackberry.

  2. Well. i had 3 users who have decided to do the update, and it bricked all 3. I have been trying to unrbrick them through the Desktop Software, i have tried through the apploader. I cant do anything. They are all stuck on the Reconnecting to JMI. I have spoken to Verizon and they told me that their success rate has not been very good with fixing this for people, and Calling Blackberry was a waste of time. I have instructed all of the users to not do the update until further notice. Luckily i have a stack of blackberries here so i could just migrate the people to different devices. I am not too concerned about fixing the bricked devices, but more concerned with more people in the company doing the update even though they were instructed not to.

  3. Have you tried doing it directly from App Loader or from http://www.blackberry.com/update
The trick is to reboot the phone and then when it shows up as USB Unknown then it will work

  4. I guess this is cool for 9930 users.
