QNX is the cornerstone on which BlackBerry 10 is built and BlackBerry’s CEO has reaffirmed many a time that they have plans for it beyond just mobile phones. QNX confirmed to Stockhouse during BlackBerry live that 11 million cars using QNX were sold in 2012 and they believe about 30 million are currently on the road.
In other QNX news we have a really cool prototype commissioned by QNX to Teknision as a prototype for use at conferences to show off the extensibility of QNX and some Flash based UI elements. Here is how Teknision describes what they created:
BEAUTY AND BRAINS FOR YOUR HOME… QNX, a world leader in embedded operating systems, enlisted Teknision to create a prototype of a next generation Smart Energy Panel. This protoype was used extensively at conferences and keynote events to demonstrate the direction of innovation in the home automation industry. Key messages for the prototype were: rich user experience, integration with hardware devices and sensors, network connectivity and usage of “green” low-power technology. Teknision developed the application using Adobe Flash Lite 3, with integration to the QNX OS and an assortment of hardware.
