A Few More BlackBerry 10.2 Features Announced Including Multiple Alarms, Level 1 Notifications, & More

Michael Clewley

We already heard quite a few awesome features coming in BlackBerry OS 10.2 but now Michael Clewley, product manager at BlackBerry, has revealed a bit more on his BBM Channel (PIN C00014277). [email protected] spotted this update where Clewley confirms that BlackBerry 10.2 SDK’s will be going to developers in June and will “be arriving within this calendar year.” Here are some other items Clewley shared:

  • Setting a time to a Remember item. Clewley has confirmed that BlackBerry Remember Tasks will get a reminder time which should have been there from the beginning…
  • Multiple alarms. I am glad to hear this is coming!
  • Level 1 notifications. This allows you to set different notifications for certain criteria of email.
  • Standard Unicode Emojis (emoticons) will be supported in 10.2 for all of you emoticon junkies!

Hopefully we will see the new 10.2 OS launch very soon since many users are waiting for headless apps. Hopefully that comes sooner rather than later.

  1. Looks good. Couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that Remember only let you set a date and not a time.

How will setting Level 1 Notifications work now that BIS is essentially obsolete? I really miss that feature.

    • Yeah that was weak on BlackBerrys part. I’m glad they are fixing it but it needs to be asap. I’m thinking level 1 notifications will just be more granular profile control

  2. Still no word about making it so one doesn’t get kicked out of a folder every time they quit an app in that folder.

  3. I miss the Auto On / Off feature on 10 OS. I always used it on my 9930. Would love to have it in a future OS update.

  4. No 10.1 for me yet in US and on Verizon.

  5. I really need Remember to allow me to set monthly recurrences for my bills. I know I can do it in calendar but not with a check box. Which I need because I always forget if I paid it or not.

    Unless there’s a feature i’m missing?

  6. I don’t see how this is a major upgrade. It could be 10.1.5 or something like that, because they are still not fixing what’s broken, instead they are adding some other random functionality, only a single important one at a time.
I am beginning to forget the stuff that frustrated me when I had my Z10, I guess I will eventually forget about those and give Z or Q10 another try, and then will run back to my 9900. :)

    • These are just a handful of the small tweaks they are doing. There are the big things too like wifi direct and usb host for a mobile computing platform. Lots of stuff going on.

  7. Oh, no word yet about an overhaul for BlackBerry maps too…
