If you have visited BerryReview since the BlackBerry Live keynote last week you may have noticed a nice speed boost. Our awesome hosts at MediaLayer did a beautiful and seamless upgrade of our main server. For those spec geeks out there we are now running on an Intel Xeon E3 1230v2 (3.3Ghz/3.7Ghz quad-core) with 8GB of RAM packing some beautiful SSDs instead of our previous 15K SAS drives. It all held up beautifully during the crushing traffic wonderful readers like you brought to BerryReview during the BlackBerry Live keynote and our liveblogs.
You will be noticing quite a few other holistic changes on BerryReview shortly so stay tuned as we iron them out! You may have even noticed a few we rolled out and have not announced yet…
PS: bonus points to the first comment who recognizes the picture above. 🙂

Cyberman from Doctor Who Season 7.
To be honest – I cheated with Google Images.
Honestly, looks like a cross between Iron Man and a Crash Test Dummy.

8GB of RAM is not enough for ZFS and if that’s not your file system, you’re missing out 😉

Glad to see I’m not the only junky 🙂 still need to get a sonic screwdriver.
@ofutur I have only setup ZFS on Solaris before in high performance environments. The self healing was nice but right now IO is not our bottleneck.

We use it on FreeBSD. I like the snapshots and remote backup abilities, but the ARC is very RAM hungry.
Anyway, nice setup you’ve got here. I didn’t know BerryReview needed so much power 🙂

yup BerryReview is power hungry. This should give us some nice room to grow without hitting any limits anytime soon. Its really just the dynamic content that hits PHP but they are running a litespeed server which is impressive in its efficiency.

Btw, the new website is breaking forum notifications. Something is stripping the carriage returns.

Sent you an email follow up. I have been playing with HTML emails so it might be it but I want to make sure.
