20% of BlackBerry World Purchases are Music

BlackBerry World - Download Music for BlackBerry Smartphones & Tablets-000402

Now this is another interesting tidbit from a BlackBerry exec coming out of BlackBerry Live. TrustedReviews heard from Charlie Miller, BlackBerry’s Director of Alliances, that “20 per cent of overall purchases on BlackBerry World is music” he added: “That’s just music, not movie and TV and that’s a lot higher than some.” He went on to say that “I can’t comment on the other guys, but what I can say is that proportionally that is a very high number.”

Miller also hinted that album sales are also higher on BlackBerry though users primarily purchase singles. Either way that is some great news for BlackBerry. Now if only BlackBerry could find a way to improve discovery on BlackBerry World for both apps and entertainment content.

Thanks kiavash for the tip!

  1. Consumers love their music. Hopefully, BlackBerry can up with their own proper music streaming service service that utilizes the power of cascades.

  2. Interesting… I never understood though why they never had a separate store or tab within the app. Just use the same service, but make it more relevant.

  3. I’ve heard rumors that the music store is powered by 7digital. What I really want, though, is the ability to actually integrate my 7digital account with my BlackBerry 10 device.

I really don’t like device-specific media stores, so I still just buy my music on the 7digital website from my desktop and copy the files over to my phone (and everything else I play music from). Not ideal, but far more flexible and long-term usable.

  4. This is where BlackBerry makes up some of its lost BIS revenue.

  5. Kudos to BBRY for building these partnerships. Wish they would do the same for ebooks with someone like Kobo because Amazon is clearly in the Android camp.
