BlackBerry 10.1 Highlights

BlackBerry 10.1 for the BlackBerry Z10 Smartphone – It Keeps Getting Better to Keep You Moving

via BlackBerry Press Release:

BlackBerry® 10 is designed to learn and adapt to the way you work. It helps you be faster, more efficient and more effective. It keeps moving with you to help you be more successful. And now there’s an update. With BlackBerry 10.1, it keeps getting better. BlackBerry 10.1 introduces a number of enhancements to make the overall BlackBerry 10 experience even better and updating to BlackBerry 10.1 is free and easy to do from your BlackBerry Z10 over a Wi-Fi network.

Highlights of BlackBerry 10.1

BlackBerry Hub manages all of your conversations

BlackBerry Hub helps you stay organized, in control and on top of all of your conversations, and with BlackBerry 10.1, it just keeps getting better. You can now view emails that are attached to another email, get contact suggestions when you start addressing a message, and send PIN to PIN messages for direct communication between BlackBerry smartphones.

Personalize your Notifications

BlackBerry 10.1 allows you to set up personalized notifications for your contacts and accounts. Customize ringtones, vibrations and the LED light for calls or message from each of your friends, family or colleagues. You can also set up a different notification for different accounts (such as for different email accounts, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

Click to call

You can now click on a phone number in an email or BBM message to call the number or copy and paste it right onto the dialer screen in the phone app.

Better cursor control

BlackBerry 10.1 offers better cursor control making it easier to accurately place the cursor and select text. Just tap once to bring up the cursor control, grab the blue circle and drag it around to the insertion point that you want. Improved visual feedback lets you know where you’re pointing. You can also tap either side of the circle to move forward or backward one character at a time.

Improved picture capturing

BlackBerry 10.1 adds an HDR (high dynamic range) shooting mode for taking beautiful images in tricky lighting conditions. High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode takes multiple pictures at different exposure levels and layers them automatically to produce a single photo that combines the best of the dark and light areas. It also includes improved red eye and golden eye reduction in the picture editor.

More to discover with BlackBerry 10.1

You’ll find a number of new enhancements across the BlackBerry 10 OS like landscape support for the calendar, easier international dialing and so much more. The first step to discovering these new features on your BlackBerry Z10 smartphone is to update your BlackBerry 10 software.

  1. The hub still needs work…
    We need:
    – Identities
    – Encryption
    – Grouping of accounts

  2. I’m love the revised filing of emails in ActiveSync accounts (my Desktop is set up this way)…..much nice and even more intuitive than on BlackBerry10.

Copying and pasting appears to be a smoother less challenging operation as well (remember, I come from a physical keyboard history and am now on the Z10).

Things appear to be a little smoother and quicker reacting, generally.

Nice to see positive moving forwards.

  3. I still need multi-calendar Google sync! How is that being missed?????

  4. It is a fantastic new start for blackberry. if blackberry keeps rolling out the updates and work on depth and quality of blackberry world, it is gonna go a long way.

  5. I used bb since 2003 and happy increasing productivity.
    I have some disappointed experience.
Using gmail & bold 9900 is more productive than Q10.

In Q10 bb is missing the filter function, make less productive less urgent/productive emails flooded to bb.

    Thumbs sport
did bb make a Thumb time n motion study?
in q10 My thumbs move 2x far to reach cancel menu top left the screen to undo some editing
in 9900 just click undo button

more far thumbs movement for this case:
After switching devise to q10 i loss many autotext definition (now word substitute) that i have to retype again.
While typing in bbm i try to edit or adding autotext and this is the procedure comparison:
Q10: thumb swipe screen bottom to the top screen make bbm smaller, swipe down to show menu setting, back to top, push setting, text input, scroll down, predict n correction, bla bla bla word subs, push “+ menu” then start type shortcut text then the substitute text…..
9900: click bbmenu, click e e select edit autotext, type shortcut text, push scroll button type the text substitutes.
is there a way to make it shorter and faster?
Do you mean this is “Better to Keep You Moving YOUR THUMBS?”

gmail in 9900: i can see 5 email subjects in one screen (it is actually 50 emails if each subject has 10 email conversation)
in Q10: it is 5 single email in a screen, the worst part is shortcut J & K button to jumps to previous/next same email subject is not working. N is working but it jumps to other email subject by time sort only, back to a last decade email concept.
Is there a way to get same fnction?

Q10 for fancy user NOT for PRODUCTIVE user.
