Cameraless BlackBerry Q10 is Possible But BlackBerry Exec Says It Is Up to Carrier Demand

Cameraless BlackBerry

I have been wondering if BlackBerry would release either the BlackBerry Q10 or Z10 without a camera. There are many companies where cameras are still not allowed (R&D, government, etc) and BlackBerry has consistently offered camera-less versions of legacy BlackBerrys for those markets a few months after the regular launch. With BlackBerry 10 we have yet to hear or such a camera-less BlackBerry.

Now BlackBerry Singapore’s country director Charles Dufourcq stated (via CNET) that a camera free BlackBerry Q10 is “technically possible” and “isn’t a difficult task” but a new manufacturing line would be required. He further stated that it is up to carrier demand for BlackBerry to put in the effort for a camera-less Q10 and “as of now, there are no plans to do so.” I am not sure if that is a global statement but I doubt it would be different per country.

What do you think? Do you need a camera-less device at your job?

  1. some of the nuclear sites our techs visit used to only let phones in with no cameras. now the rule is much more relaxed it seems so we don’t really need cameraless phones anymore. The worst case scenario is that they make you leave your phone in a locker while you work.

  2. Many of us are still required to have cameraless phones. Please continue to produce them.
