WhatsApp Confirms “It Is NOT Holding Sales Talks with Google”

Those of you worried by reports that Google was in talks with WhatsApp for an acquisition can breathe easy for a little longer. Neeraj Arora, WhatsApp Business Development Head, has confirmed to AllThingsD that they are “not holding sales talks with Google.” This closes the book for now on the rumor that Google was in the bidding for a $1 billion sale price. On the other hand it does seem like the signs are pointing towards an eventual acquisition for WhatsApp.

  1. its sad because this shows how vulnerable BB is against the big wigs. BB has never acquired something strategic that would give it an instant foothold on the big boys’ turfs. Everything BB has purchased for the past 5y has been to catch up (qnx, torch mobile, that irish cloud company I cant recall, etc).

Ms did that with Skype. boom. Apple too but they do it from a dominant position (Siri for instance, was the first of all mobile platform to be fully integrated).

I hope BB one day will step it up.

    • PS: I wouldn’t call the acqusition of qnx and tat incremental, rather instrumental to their return and potential to rise above the competition.

  2. Agreed. Blackberry needs to make these kind of power plays to get back in the game, while keeping their security andd integrity intact
