BlackBerry Ending BBM Music Effective June 2nd, 2013

bbm-music-iconIt seems that BlackBerry Music is on the chopping block.  The on device music subscription app is set to end June 2, 2013.  Paid subscribers will  get billed for April, and it looks like May will be free to them.  To ease the users in to another music app, they are offering all paid subscribers a 30 day free trial to Rdio. If you are a BBM Music subscriber, you can find specific instructions on what to do below.

After the service is discontinued, we recommend that you delete the app from your BlackBerry smartphone by completing the following:
1. On the home screen, click Options.
2. Click Device > Application Management.
3. Select the BBM Music app.
4. Press the Menu key > Delete.

Though BBM Music is going away, you can still listen to great music on your BlackBerry. We’re giving you a 30-day pass to Rdio, which gives you unlimited, on-demand access to more than 18 million songs, including the latest hits and classic albums.

To get Rdio on your BlackBerry and claim your voucher, you will need to do the following:
1. Visit BlackBerry World – Rdio on your BlackBerry and click Download.
2. Launch the Rdio app and create your new account by clicking Get Rdio Unlimited.
3. Verify your account, then relaunch the Rdio app and log in.
4. Press the Menu key > Settings.
5. Click Redeem Gift Card.
6. Paste this voucher code into the redemption field:
7. Click Redeem.

  1. The catalogue was too small…

  2. I was one of the first beta testers and I didn’t keep it on my Bold 9700 for long.
In my survey, I asked them to make it free with ads or something but they wouldn’t listen.
Something tells me that podcasts just might get the axe as well (it did already, partially) but BlackBerry news is golden to me and I hope it stays and can be downloaded on BlackBerry 10.
I never used gReader, is it the same? Are they working off of different servers?

  3. BBM Music just didn’t really make sense…

  4. The problem with BBM Music was that it reliied too much on BBM contacts, wasn’t promoted well and it should have been free.

  5. I agree. Wasn’t a good app to have. Didn’t last long on my device. Podcast is poor as well

  6. What does paying for music mean?
