Great news. I would be leary of similar Android, IOS mobile payment offerings, due to reputed information leaks.

It would be nice if they also had agreement with other providers (Bell, Telus, etc) & other banks jumped in.

I imagine there is some sort of exclusivity agreement for a certain initial period of time between visa, cibc and Rogers. Cibc and Rogers have always been fairly close knit so it wouldn’t surprise me. Eventually the rest will have apps I would assume.

Great idea, but have you tried to find an ‘NFC-capable SIM card’??? The app doesn’t work without it. I’ve got the 9900 app installed and it’s useless without the SIM card.
I’ve asked at a half dozen Rogers stores and they all say they don’t have the SIM cards yet.

OMG Peter I went through the SAME thing when the app came out. I went to store after store and no one knew what an NFC enabled SIM card is.
Turns out, the basic SIM card is the NFC enabled SIM card. Just wasn’t branded as such.
I just checked the Rogers website and they seem to have branded it now the “Rogers Suretap Sim”
You can find and order it here: http://www.rogers.com/web/content/sim-cart
The regular LTE simcard is also NFC enabled as well.
They seem to be charging more for the “Suretap” SIM card, but, it is my understanding they are both enabled.

Thanks Brian. But when I launch the app it says it won’t work because the SIM card doesn’t support it. So it sounds like I need the Suretap SIM card?

Maybe 6 weeks – got it with my a new corporate owned 9900. Also didn’t work with my older personal 9900 (that SIM was maybe 2 years old)

I don’t think so. How can you tell? Its in a 9900 which isn’t LTE.

The SIM card would say LTE on it. LTE sims will work in non LTE phones.
