Shortcuts for Showing & Hiding the BlackBerry 10 Keyboard

IMG_00000364 IMG_00000365

I have been getting this question a few times from users so I thought I would cover it in our Tips & Tricks series. There are actually two ways to hide and one way to show the BlackBerry keyboard anywhere. I am really hoping BlackBerry brings back the corner bezel swipe to toggle the keyboard but until then here are the options:

  • To easily hide the keyboard you can always hold down the spacebar for 2 seconds. To get the keyboard back just click on any text area
  • Otherwise there is an easy gesture to TOGGLE the BlackBerry 10 keyboard using two fingers. This will both show and hide the keyboard practically anywhere. You simply use two fingers and either SWIPE UP from the bottom bezel or SWIPE DOWN from the screen in the direction of the bottom bezel. Both seem to work for both showing and hiding the keyboard.

Let us know if you notice any other ways to show and hide the keyboard!

  1. You can also swipe down diagonally from the top right

  2. If you can bring the keyboard at any time, does it support the same keyboard shortcuts as the Q10?

  3. I hope they bring that corner swipe back. It is convienant to open my keyboard on my PlayBook.

  4. Is there not a “show keyboard” under the BB Menu button like on the older touch devices?
